Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

I agree I would rather trade someone other than minten with the first but we got a good cap hit and cost control and Hes probably gonna stay with us too id say it’s a good trade all things considered
I get that fans like Carlo, I do as well.
But Tre emptied our cupboard and our future ability to the next wave of stars in one day. If we go deep this year, Carlo will play a role, and likely for the next few years.
But Laughton is a joke. Greybonkin would have a greater impact, and the first rounders...when Mitchy leaves the cupboard is bare, except for Cowan. Stars come from drafts, not free agency in general.
Let's hope Stanley comes to Canada this year, hopefully Toronto.

I think Carlo is a good addition. Not as convinced about Laughton but I'm willing to give it time.

I do think both were overpayments. However, with Tre's stated preference for building in the summer, it looks like this may have been more Shanahan's decision than Tre's.

The future is the 2025-28 Matthews contract. Most stars come from the top of the draft (ours all did), and the top Leafs picks during the next few years will likely be at the bottom of the first round.

True, but 2 firsts plus Miten, plus? would get you to 10 maybe

Grebebkin was the Hawk Tuah of Toronto.

He might have been our 10th most valuable prospect, and certainly not better than Neimala.

He was a top 5 prospect for us...

Who else would have been in the top 5 outside of Cowan, Minten, Danford, Niemela, and Greb?

I'm not saying he is a top 5 prospect in most systems, but he was a good prospect and one of our best.

I don't like Treliving, I think he is a terrible GM, but at least he is making an effort and going for it.

I hated last deadline more than this one, last deadline we got a bunch of depth players for 6 picks.

I think we paid a lot but at least he is trying to bring in players who can contribute more than 8 minutes a night in a sheltered role (Laughton hopefully will end up being more) and have term.

Funnily enough, I see a lot of people who cried about shipping out too many firsts now not caring though (not referencing you obviously)

I agree he’s probably top 5

I’ve watched a decent amount of the Marlies the last couple seasons, and I’m not convinced Niemela is going to be an NHL player.

Once upon a time, Fred Gauthier was also a top 5 prospect for “us”.

I suppose it depends how you rank them. He was top-5 NHL ready, but his upside is a lot more limited than many others.

Obviously, Cowan, Minten, Danford, and Neimala were ahead of him, but others have much higher ceilings.

Hildeby and Akhtyamov would probably be above him. Chadwick and Villeneuve also. I guess he was top-10 for us, but definitely not top-5.

Every year it was send out futures for depth pieces and d men and keep the core 4 in tact. Not once did shanahan pivot like he should have and it was cost him his job at seasons end.

Treliving unloads bad players just so he can take on worse ones.

His few good moves are always preceded and proceeded by several bad ones. He's like that kid you trade all your common pokemon's to for shinies. We're talking about a GM whose supporters name Hakanpaa as one of his wins.

Assuming he's some sort of secret mastermind in disguise would be stupid.

It's impossible to believe there's a mastermind hiding behind that bumbling oaf of a GM. So I'm gonna continue thinking he's a moron. And an idiot as a GM is bound to fail no matter who he's surrounded by.

The Leafs have an idiot surrounded by other idiots.

Treliving has the world's largest scouting and analytics departments at his disposal. Yet for some reason he STILL didn't know Laughton was neither a capable centre or even a good hockey player. Somebody sold him on Laughton being worth trading a first and a prospect for.

Whatever bad advice Treliving got, and chose to follow, is on him.

I don’t know about him losing his job. All indications are Shapiro is going to extend and his on field product is pretty bad. I’m at the point where I’ll believe it when I see it.

Could have called up Greb and saved a lot of paperwork.

I’ve explained why Stevie Lorentz is vastly superior to Noel Accari and Sam LaughAtMe - - better production on all levels for LESS THAN HALF the cost.

You still haven’t been able to provide anything tangible to support your misguided idea that Accari and LaughAtMe are preferable.

Maybe you have some convoluted stat like “time on the ice without making contact with the puck or an opponent” or maybe Accari and LaughAtMe were really nice about posing for a selfie with you?

Stevie Lorentz with a huge game winner as the Leafs move three points clear in 1st place.

Lorentz now has as many Poitras Sam LaughAtMe and Noel Accari have COMBINED. Not to mention those two hacks are both making $2M each compared to the outstanding value Brad Treliving achieved by getting Lorentz for just $775k.

I wonder if there’s anyone else who would still rather have LaughAtMe or Accari instead of Lorentz?

Laughton got off to a slow start for sure but he seems to picking it up the last couple games.

If he's struggling in January then we need to have a conversation.

But not now.

ok fine, still a steep price to pay for a guy who didn't last 10 games at the position we acquired him to strengthen. I would love to see Niemala crack our lineup someday

Yeah totally irresponsible for them to give up a guy drafted in the 5th round. I mean hell, he was clearly the future centerpiece of the team right?

Steep price my ass.
