Brad Treliving: 'DNA has to change'

The problem with Tre is he says this AFTER he tried to sign Marner to a 13-13.5x8 earlier this year. So the DNA has to change after NINE years of losing, but eight years of losing=paid like McDavid?

Maybe he can do something good, but how much can you trust him after he did nothing in Calgary and basically made 3 blunders already in his first year in Toronto (Laughton/Carlo/Marner contract)?

The difference between a player and a GM is akin to the difference between a neurosurgeon and a bond trader. Completely difference skill sets required to excel. Very rare is the Billy Beane type who can successfully make the transition.
I agree completely and didn’t mean to say good player = good GM. Not at all.

My question relates to the point that Shanahan was a nasty, hard nosed, driven, uber-competitive, possessed piece of shit on the ice. And, given that he never played for Boston, I mean that as a complement. Truly.

How a guy that driven as a player could watch playoff after playoff of mostly blah performances and not have an aneurism is impressive.

He is not a very smart person is why. He has rock for brains. He isn’t the only one. There are lots of people that have positions of authority and make good money that just are not very bright.

In the 2021-2022 NHL season the Florida Panthers traded their leading scorer, Johnathan Huberdeau. He scored 115 pts in 80 games. His 85 assists lead the NHL that season.

But you’re afraid of losing Mitch Marner lol.
Difference is Florida got a beast in Matt Tkatchuk back. The Leafs get nothing but cap space.

Maybe the decision to move on from any of the core four wasn’t up to Shanahan? Likely those franchise altering decisions need ownership’s approval.

That could never happen. Not a chance. I have it on good authority that the Boston Bruins hold exclusive rights to the hard assed ex power forward President with an over involved owner Plan.

Was right about the Sens series...
Did the Sens force the Leafs core four to play through big boy hockey? The core four (excluding Tavares; I think he’s got the fight dna) naturally moved into flight mode when the Panthers play hard nosed.
That’s the dna Treliving is talking about. The fight or flight dna. Matthews, Marner, and Nylander have the flight dna.

He's a pretty massive problem with his inability to play like an NHLer in his own zone. They really need to find a way to get rid of him.
That’s not a dna issue though. And Yreliving specifically mentioned changing the dna.

Icing a complete D group of NHL quality guys and getting rid of a guy wearing a letter who refuses to attempt to learn how to play his position is a pretty big change to the DNA. They have a culture where the way Rielly plays is acceptable and it makes it harder to hold the guys who actually belong in the NHL accountable.

And? What's the point. Shame on me for as a fan believing in my team (who so far has done the best against the Panthers anyways)?
No problem for anyone with you being a leaf fan and loving them.

Shame on you for trying to make posters feel bad about you, shame on you for being a relentless, insufferable, loud ass-clown of a fan who loves to troll people -> like clockwork, your team loses and the circle starts again. It's OLD.

What? Reilly is still a heck of a player and has the dna fight gene. The Leafs are moving on from Marner and likely Tavares. And then they’re going to try and sign free agents who have the fight DNA with the cap space. Trouble is those guys won’t have the same skill level of what going out the door and they will still have two big money makers, Matthews and Nylander, leading the club who both don’t have the right dna.
Placing the blame on Reilly, who has the right DNA, makes no sense.

That’s the schtik, be condescending, make ridiculous statements every game, and then get laughed at, but disappears when they lose, then in a day, start over and repeat.

Nope. The DNA is the moment gets too big for the top players and they look like they have no idea how to score. They do it all year long, scoring playoff style goals, and then when the moment arrives time and time again they can't do it.

That is what needs to change. The core has no believe they can do it and it shows. They need to change to screw you I am going down swinging and not "shit this is happening again"

Keep in mind, this is a rumour, both the leafs/MLSE and Mitch's team/dad are putting out all types of narratives to blame the other side in this/keep value pumped. You'll hear little things like this until he signs elsewhere.
