Brad Treliving: 'DNA has to change'

Dubas is the one who got them into this mess. Why would anyone trust him to fix it?

yeah, I have a hard time given Dubas’ track record in both Toronto and Pitt that he wasn’t on board with rolling it back every year as much as anyone.

He gave out those contracts, but he did have a few trades all lined up and Shanny said no. Then 2 years ago Dubas said enough is enough and all options are on the table regarding the core 4. They let him go and allowed Marners full no move kick in and gave Matthews and Nylander massive extensions.

Dubas is far from perfect and made lots of mistakes but at least he realized the problem. Its not his fault Shanny had a weird obsession with the core 4.

Talk is cheap...let's see if they actually do anything other than make changes on the 3rd and 4th lines and bottom pairings.
I bet you ... all this means is that Marner and Tavares won't be resigned. A reason to not bring them back.

Leafs still had a top regular season record and they won't jeapordize profits.

However, this is a weak UFA class. And RFA offer sheets is something that happens later in the offseason.

I have no idea what the Leafs will try to do/makeup the loss of Marner and Tavares.

One smart thing Shanahan did was veto allowing Dubas to trade Knies.

The D does need to change though. It was improved, but really that wasn't saying much.

When your top offensive Dman isn't good enough for PP1, you have problems.

Reilly is done as a top pair D, that's where I would start.

I am expecting major changes, the D needs an overhaul that for sure.

They just made an overhaul on their defense last year

They have no assets to make trades really and with Marner atleast most likely walking for nothing they need to retool their offense more than their defense

They do have a few good ones. Not many though.

Example Knies and Cowan.
