How do you let Richards go after this?
HOW?
I don't see it happening. The guy is flat out stepping up.
Nash is.....well...I don't know where he is.
He was at Stout chilling with Beukeboom.

I was thinking along these lines too, or in about 3 years we trade Richards and a first to a cap floor team for '3rd line wing' and a 4th rounder. Cap floor team just keeps richards as a healthy scratch every game and gets his cap hit while paying comparatively nothing.
So if Richie was available July 1st, Some of you hockey masterminds thinks it would be a smart decision to sign Richie for 6 years at 6.6 per year? That is just so stupid. We know he has a history of stepping up when it matters more but its too evident the guy is dead at the end of his shifts. Hes gotta go.
The speed of this series has exposed him. He is at times completely unable to make a play at either end of the ice.
This.
He had pretty much the same issue in last season's playoffs.
This season he was slightly better due to taking part in MSL's workouts. However, you cannot reverse aging. He is what he is. He can still make a decent pass and his shot is ok. But the skating is just not there anymore.
When people were saying lets buy out Nash instead of Richards I was shocked. Seriously? Buy out a 29 year old who CAN skate over a 34 year old who CAN'T skate? In today's NHL, being able to skate well is huge. You are not going to get far in the playoffs without players who can skate.
Not to mention Richards has 6 years on his deal while Nash only has 4.
It's a no-brainer to buy out Richards. We have Stepan, Brassard, Miller, Moore and Boyle at Center. No need for Richards at this point...
Do you guys think he's been a good PPQB?
To me, he's average at best and it drives me crazy when he's out there for the full 2 minutes on a PP and Girardi is on the second unit.
He's constantly fumbling the puck and if he gives it away, it's an automatic odd-man rush the other way.

Couldn't agree more.
Definitely one of those athletes who seems to lose it all at once. His skating between ages 31 and 33 is black and white, speed has completely vanished.
the only way around it is if he can perform for another 3 years at this level. At that point, his actual salary is only $1M, where he can then be traded to a cap floor team, who only needs to pay out $1M for a $6.7M cap hit.
I'd say it can be done
And when he is 35/36 and completely broken down, scoring 10 points a season, making only $1M in cash as a paycheck, what exactly will keep him from retiring and putting the cap hit back on the Rangers?
because money is money, no?
