Brad Richards?

Not really one bad season, but a three-year downward trend.

The NHL is a faster game now than it ever was. You need to be exceptionally careful bringing in any free agents over the age of 30. It rarely ever works out, and usually ends up as an albatross contract.

So one bad season and the guy is finished, right?

Hell yeah we should make an offer. Cup winner, clutch player, lefthanded center. Turris could move to the wing where he could thrive with a center like Spezza.

Why does everybody on here keep thinking that Turris can play wing?

No. Not a chance in hell. There was a time I would have given NyQuil's left foot to have Brad Richards on the Sens, but that time has long past.

Because it would solve a lot of our problems in our eyes.

Turris's playing style isn't really conducive to playing the wing. He is pretty ineffective at battling for pucks along the boards and in the corners and shown on a number of occasions a lack of willingness to take a hit to make a play. I guess there is a possibility that all of that could be solved by a significant mount of added muscle mass and strength in the off season. And if that is the case, Turris needs to stop spending his summers training with guys like Wiercioch and start training with guys like Neil, Phillips, Cowen and Greening.

I didn't say it was a good solution.

Oh, It seems like a lot of posters on here are implying that Turris could easily transition to wing and be really effective there. Hence their desires to sign other centre's like Richards and Weiss and move Turris to wing. IMO we are better off keeping Turris at centre and then targeting a winger through trade or free agency.

In fairness, the Sens have had a lot of players who are used to playing center shift over to wing in the past few years. I have a memory of Denis Potvin listing off the former centers in the Sens former group a couple of years back, and it was quite long. In general it can work if the player is built the right way and is able to go compete for the puck on the boards and in the corners. It just so happens that Turris is in no way, shape, or form built for playing on the wing. You'd need a spatula to peel him off of the boards after "competing" with Chara for a loose puck in the corner.

Not all wingers are power forwards. Cammalleri, Kessel and D.Sedin come to mind.

I was also very impressed with Turris grit and willingness to fight for pucks in traffic during the playoffs. But it's his shot that makes me think he would be the perfect triggerman for a great passer like Spezza.

And then we can sign Streit for cheap and make him our top LW! I think he'll make the switch seamlessly because he played some peewee wing and rocked it. But only when we sign him for >3mil.
Problem solved.

Nah, he's a center. Other than that, he's 33 and has been on the decline the past few years.

If he signs for cheap, sure, why not. But he's probably going to want something long term and I doubt Murray would take that risk.

People are so over-dramatic here. His production has declined but its not like he's done in the NHL - he still got 34 pts in 46 games, a pace of 60, had 66 last year. All on a very defensively minded team.

We have 3 forwards who have ever topped 60, yet we are somehow too good for this guy.
I don't even really want Richards but he'd be a good addition for a team that desperately needs offensive producers.

I like Richards and all but it seems like his best days are behind him. If we decide to go for a centre this summer why not Derek Roy or Stephen Weiss?

TBH I'd much rather go after Danny Briere on a 1 year deal if he's bought out by Philly. I think he'd work well on a line with Pageau and he's as clutch as anyone.
