Brad Richards

He's been awful, and making a bad power-play abysmal.

Don't understand it. He is a smart player more than anything. He is not as physically talented as a Nash or LaCav, etc. but he is just making out and out dumb/bad decisions.

Something is wrong. I'll bet he has some problem at home/relationship/drugs/etc. This is not a Wade Redden situation.

Just my gut.

And in come the exaggerations.

I hate how he's been too, but maybe you blacked out just how bad Gomez & Drury were towards the end of their stints here.

Gomez was here for 2 years, and played very good hockey until the final stretch. What a convincing sample size.

Drury's first 2 seasons here were better then Richards have been.

No exaggerations. Like I posted in another thread, nobody here complains when we win games, nobody is accountable. It's a living, breathing psychological experiment taking place. The Rangers won a ton last year, so nobody nitpicked or complained. He was flat out disgraceful last year, but like a goldfish with a 15 second memory we won, so everyone forgets or lets it go.

We are struggling, so everyone is under a microscope. And boom, Richards plays the exact same way as last season and everyone wants to run him out of town. It's hilarious actually.

Despite the points he's been awful so far this season. He was the biggest reason why we were #1 in East last season and he also played really well in playoffs.

IMO he's either injured or badly out of shape. I'd cut him slack until 2nd half of the season at least.

Not entirely true. Richards scored some big goals for us last year when nobody else could pick a corner and was generally far less of a defensive liability. I agree that the baseline wasn't exactly in the stratosphere but there is a clear regression from year to year; people were not being blind in the past.

He had a wonderful playoffs last season, and a couple of other little streaks where he played some quality hockey. The rest of the season? Just as bad as what we're watching now.

I don't blindly hate anyone on this team. I'm saying it how it is.

i dont recall if he ever had history of this but who knows.. anything can happen..

It's almost unbelievably bad. As soon as he hits the ice, he makes a dumb drop pass and gives the puck away. I don't get it.

Are you going to stop on 1 f**king puck this year Richie?! Are you going to stop on 1 this year?!

Not sure what happened.

Decent season or not you have to think that the Rangers are looking at Richards as a potential compliance buyout. This is a business and if Richards is descending into mediocrity already then this contract will be disasterous. I think Richards would really have to crap the bed to make the Rangers do that, but with his 6 point something million cap hit and the cap going down in conjuction with the fact that Richards has 7 years left on his deal after this season, it is not extreme to say that the Rangers could possibly do a compliance buyout.

Go ahead, laugh and critisize. But to say that Rangers brass isn't even entertaining the idea is absurd given the circumstances of Richards performance thus far along with his hefty contract and the cap situation next year.

so where do we find a first line center?

:(

Draft, trade, free agency. The options are not exactly lying thick on the ground, but by shedding $6.67m you can even just pick up 2 mediocre players on shorter term deals and see if that works.

We are at a crossroads here, he has to go. I can guarantee that if Richards stays, then at some point before that contract ends, 95% of the Rangers fan base will be calling for his head, and I don't think we'll have to wait long for that time either. He has got to go at the end of this season.

If he's not going to be a Ranger, this is the way it's going to happen. He has a NMC, and I doubt he's approving a trade anywhere.

Regardless, I still have faith in him. I've been saying since Day 1 of this season, I'm cutting everyone some slack until March. By that point in the season everyone should be in form and ready to go. Until then, I'll live with the frustration and chalk it up to rustiness.

He's a step behind everyone and he's simply playing carelessly. The best part of Richards' game (when he's playing like himself) is his vision and passing. Both of which are non-existent right now.

If he makes a blind behind the back pass at the blue line one more time I'm going to lose it.

He just doesn't seem to try hard enough. Ever. Lately, his legs are completely gone and when he passes it's like he closes his eyes and prays it hits one of his teammates sticks. He makes some raah-tarded passes lemme tell you.

Watching him skate makes me want to lay down and take a nap, and watching his hockey IQ diminish makes me want to drink a glass of cyanide, cover myself in honey, and try to play a game of Twister with a family of rabid black bears.

To be fair, he wasn't the only one doing it. Cally and DelZ also did boneheaded behind the back passes. ****'s contagious.
