Galchenyuk plays natural, straight ahead hockey. He is uncorrupted so far.
Fun to watch his skill, actually, even if he kills the Rangers. Rangers deserve it, after all.

Brooks Slap Shots talking about buying him out if there are no improvements.

Didnt even know this but good to know nonetheless.

This makes it much more likely than not that the Rangers would execute their final amnesty buyout this summer rather than next, when the cap cannot go down and conceivably will go up.

The numbers tell us Marian Gaborik, carrying a cap hit of $7.5 million through next season, would be a candidate, except other essential numbers say No. 10 not only leads the Blueshirts in goals, as usual, but is sixth in the NHL in goal-scoring since he came to the Rangers in 2009-10 (fourth in goals per game).

I'm secretly praying that Malkin doesn't re-sign w/ PIT...

Glen can buy Richards out and then do the math...

I think the Rangers would give Richards next season, but would almost definitely buy him out in 2014

IF he is not performing you really have to think about buying him out after this season, it opens up a lot of cap space that will be helpful signing McD and others (I forget who else's contract is up after the season). I think you have about 15 mil open as opposed to 9 mil.

Just running numbers
Not saying if they should use the option or not, yet...

Amnesty buyout for Brad Richards this year
7 years left
$36.000.000
Two thirds of amount to BR = $24.000.000
$1,714,286 per year paid out for 14 years

Amnesty buyout for Brad Richards next year
6 years left
$18.000.000
Two thirds of amount to BR = $24.000.000
$1,500,000 per year paid out for 12 years

$6.000.000 in total difference for Dolan to shell out...

Don't want to act like a troll here, but I watched the game yesterday, and I was astonished - in a negative way - by Richards' game. The guy reminded me a lot of Mark Messier... when he was 40 and couldn't skate anymore.

Hopefully, NYR players are currently sending the message that Tortorella's days as the coach should come to an end. It's hard to understand how this team, who was supposed to win easily it's division title, will just struggle to earn a playoff spot. Having such an uneffective PP with 2 40 goals scorers, and one of the best puck mover in the league is inconceivable.

You're not trolling. We are all in agreeance that BR is horrible right now. And that the Flowerplay is the worst atrocity that can be seen.

Messier was at least scoring some goals on a bad team and he was 9 years older.

The lower buyout by waiting a year would be a key factor if not an amensty buyout and you had to worry about a cap hit. But it really doesn't save Dolan any $$ cause he needs to pay Richards $9 mil next year in order to save $6 mil over the next 12-14 years...

Richards is getting amnestied AINEC. It's just a matter of when. I think they chalk this season up as a fluke and let him play next year. But after that see ya

Those numbers aren't quite right - although the buyout numbers are correct. Should be:

Very interesting point. It's actually $3MM CHEAPER to buy him out this summer. If you factor in time value of money, the savings are even higher.

Just wanted to make sure I have this right. We can keep Richards this year AND all of NEXT season too right? If at that point he's still hot garbage we can buy him out? This is perfect to me because to me we only signed him hoping for 3 or 4 seasons of elite play.

Instead we got one season of great legit 1 C play with some big moments but also long stretches of...this and now a second season of...this. I never expected this season to be so horrendous for Richards I have to think the lockout has a lot to do with it but it seems like an obvious preview of the next 6 years.Hopefully all these 22 and under guys will be even better next year. I have a feeling guys will heal and we'll go on a run still this season

Torts may be a casualty but I'm not sure he seems to be taking it easy on the players as if he realizes how extenuating certain circumstances are this year. With all the injuries AND past success I just don't see him getting dumped until we see a full fledged mutiny. These guys suck at scoring or they're injured they don't look lazy to me though.

Therein lies your problem you are greatly overexaggerating the talent we have. Nash is a 30-35 goal scorer. Gabs is still coming off that shoulder I guarantee it (plus he's just older) and did you REALLY just give Richards that label? Should our PP be better? Oh HELL yea. But we also have to be a little more realistic about what we have in some of these players

realistically gaborik is still a 40 goal scorer. 20 games isn't a big enough sample size to decide otherwise. he has always been a streaky guy. he's under his numbers this season, but who on this team isn't...? hell, clarkson is top 10 goals scored right now

realistically nash can hit 40 with this team--right now i see him as a mid-to-high 30s guy when healthy. you can't tell me nash isn't creating enough opportunities when he is on the ice to hit 40 here in 82.

realistically richards was one of the best puck movers in the game when he was on, and when he is off he doesn't come close. richards missing camp royally ****ed us imo. tort's management of camp also did not help.

nash and gaborik together and healthy on this team can net 80 in an 82 no problem imo, but for that to happen richards has to be the guy that we saw at the end of last season. he has to be a threat on the ice. that's our problem right now, and the biggest positive is that it's apparently all mental and he can be that guy again.

shortened season--> everything is off. lundqvist is putting up numbers worse than bryzgalov. richards is horrible right now. stepan is our best forward(okay hagelin, but still). people are putting too much weight on this start.

Which is why I dont advocate blowing up the team. I would just like a coach to adjust to his talent level, as he did in 09-10.

09-10 started out "safe is death" with the wrong personnel. More open play, aggressive attack, setting up on the rush, pinching, and having your goalie bail you out, etc.

Tortorella DID re-adjust in 09-10.

I think this team is now more accustomed to that style now.

Building around Rick Nash offensively and dumping Gaborik and Richards seems like a bad idea, not sure turning the Blueshirts into the Blue Jackets is the best direction.

Shouldn't Tortorella just loosen the offensive reigns a bit now that the Rangers have so much offensive talent? Let those guys do what makes them successful and have the goalie bail you out. Seems like a better idea than grinding yourself down.

Correct. But if we keep him for next season we will have some constraints signing players this summer...but we all knew that was going to be the case anyway.

Not sure why there is even discussion on buying him out. There is literally a 0% chance it doesn't happen.

Even if he picks up his play this year and next, his cap hit is far too crippling.

We are extremely fortunate to have that buyout.

Yeah, but in fairness didn't the rules just change in the new CBA regarding the recapture aspect of buyouts? I thought they became stricter...so it's only fair if they are going to change the terms that they offer a new buyout option.

Can we all agree the amnesty clause is a superb beautiful cake full of joy and possibilities? Not only for Richards, but I mean, in general.
