The more I think on this, the more unlikely I think Florida is.

If Florida can get Ekblad and Bennett done at matching 8x8's (they'd probably get 7x10 as UFAs) I think they take it and run. Deal E-Rod for futures and fill out the roster with near league minimum guys. Then for 2027-28 they can make more additions when everyone is signed and Bob gets a pay cut.

To circle back to Marchand, I could see Florida telling him "Hey go get your bag on a 1 yr deal, and we'll take you back next summer." Whether or not that'd be appealing to him I dont know, but its the only way I can see him in Florida.

Now if Ekblad walks all this goes out the window. They could retain Marchand. But I also think they view Jones as a Montour replacement, and if they lose Ekblad they'd prioritize finding another D.

The thing is its being reported that he's looking for the money on this last real contract. He's taken discounts for a long time and now its about one more cash in and a place that has many endorsement options

Friedman specifically mentioned Utah and Toronto as a couple teams to watch here for Marchand.

I don't doubt Florida wants him back, I just think Zito is too smart of a GM to give Marchand the level of overpayment he's seeking.

I believe in the case if you didn’t have enough cap space this year to cover for it it moves against next years cap

So it would be ideal. 10M$ coming off, cap going up. Bob will most likely resign 1 year deal much cheaper

Mikkola is the only "big name" UFA we have after next season. Being finnish I bet he resign 3.5-4.5 x 4 extension
