He goes where mitch goes :-P

If Brad and Mitch end up on the same team (not Toronto), guaranteed that team wins the Cup next year just to further humiliate Leaf Nation (of which I am now retired from, at least until they make a CF) even more.

Hes coming to the ducks... So is perry.. Than we become the most hated team ever.. Gudas. Trouba.. Marchant.. Perry..!!!
At age 51, I’m pretty sure Marchant is done. Todd was fast, but he lost that speed. Don’t know why he is such a hated player either.

Isn't taxing quite high in Toronto vs something like Florida? It's another factor.

Tax in Toronto is out of control :(

Tax is paid on the games he plays in Toronto so half. He is paid in US funds so he would get 35% more value, though, since he would be paying for CND goods with US pay.

even without any of that, the Leafs are extremely likely to overpay someone who they believe may be able to help to change the culture. IMO Marchand may be different but what is he going to do while Matthews and Nylander are having prop bets with each other and Matthews is the captain.

DNA starts with player leadership. If the captain is a douchebag what can you expect. Compare Matthews to Sundin, Clarke, and Gilmour. It isnt possible.

They should send Matthews to a leadership bootcamp with Messier.

I voted Florida as the single most likely team - but I’d probably take the field. I think he’s going to get some really lucrative offers and I think the Panthers and Zito aren’t going to get caught up in keeping everything together at the expense of cap and flexibility. I think Bennett stays but Marchand and Ekblad could both go.

Marchand really can be replaced, for the regular season, internally…Samoskevich should be ready for the next step after a really solid rookie year.

Forsling, Jones and Mikkola is still an elite top 3 without Ekblad. You see the benefit of the Jones deal in that not only was he a huge contributor to the Cup, he really reduces the need for the Panthers to panic about their 1 RHD spot and overspend keeping Ekblad.

Gives the Panthers flexibility to add depth and I think in a couple years they’ll be doing just fine without carrying around big contracts for a late 30’s Marchand and Ekblad in his 30’s.

I think you sacrifice ERod and try to get him back for 3-4mil. After Bennett at 8 and hopefully Ekblad at 5ish.

I want him to go back to Boston - have him sign one year deals with the B's every summer, and let them trade him at the deadline to a contender if they aren't in the playoff hunt. I have no idea where he plans to sign, but this is what I would like to see.

Myself as well. Give me the field.

Depends upon what he wants to do in his final years/contract.

Honestly if he just wants to cash in/chase 500 goals (he's a little over 2 years away at his current production) I could see him going to PIttsburgh to pair up with his summer training buddy Sid.

If he wants more cups he stays in Florida -- but at a discount (likely doesn't get 500 goals playing on the 3rd line though).

I'd love him back in Boston, but I'd be surprised if he came back. (before signing a 1-day retirement contract). Boston doesn't have the money to throw at a 38 year old winger, and they're not close to wining a cup.

Assuming he wants to stay on the East Coast:

Florida - If they money works, hard to walk away from the B2B cup champs
Carolina - A team that's on the verge, Marchand might be that veteran guy to help them get over the hump
New Jersey - depending on where you look the odds makers have them around the 8-10 range to win the cup.

^That would be my top 3

Pittsburgh - Would be interesting as Marchand & Crosby play together on the national team, but I think PITT is going a different direction.
Rangers - Close to Boston, but they'd need to move some things around and it sounds like they're going to shake things up.

In a world where Duchene gets 4.5M and Tavares maybe gets something similar, is Marchand really worth >8M??

Duchene's getting buyout money too. But it depends on if Marhcand (or Tavares) want to give a team a massive discount. Tavares has earned a lot, he may give the Leafs a bit of a discount. Marchand's been underpaid his entire career and has two cups. He should either re-sign in Florida or get paid.

Yea Duchene and presumably Tavares both really want to stay with their current teams. Whereas Marchand seeming wants to go to a high bidder (that also doesnt suck).

I feel like Florida will find a way to make it work. I can see Rodrigues traded to make room and they let Ekblad walk

3-4 million for The Rat
5ish for Ekblad

IMO, the only way Marchand returns to Florida is on a one year incentive laden deal, with the idea that the Panthers' cap could free up considerably next off-season. I can't imagine he'd want to do that unless the incentives are huge, though.

Surprised his career earnings are only $72 million over 14 years

He has 2 rings. Owes nobody a thing. Go get paid dude. Get your $8.5 for 3 years.

Rat on the ice and apparently an angel off it. So, I have no issue him chasing the money.

Maybe he helps some team get over the hump into the playoffs and a playoff run.
