Brad Marchand traded to Florida, Brandon Carlo to Toronto

Tomorrow’s Globe:

Brad Marchand, when reminiscing this past week about his early days in Boston, credited his time spent with Mark Recchi as helping him to understand the dedication needed to have a long, successful NHL career. “He was 82 years old, doing wind sprints on the treadmill after the game,” said a smiling Marchand, “and I’m eating a slice of pizza. I’m like, ‘Wow, I might need to change a few things here.’ ”
I think Dr Recchi probably did more things for the Bruins than most fans give him credit for

You may be right. Bruins already pay 73 way too much.
Should have kept Marchy and traded McAvoy
Smart lets pay 37-year-old, and not a 26-year-old defenseman..........with that kind of thinking around the 300 birthday of the great United States, the rebuild might be complete.🇺🇸

Don't even reply to that troll .Maybe we should be on scabs board talking shit about not being any good since 1993.Amazes me how he gets to roam free here steady causing shit on purpose, but any other teams board boots you in 5 mins.

Disappointed in the return for Carlo. I would have liked to get back a prospect with real top 6 potential as opposed to a Curtis Lazar type.

Like Poitras, broke camp with the NHL club in his Draft+2 season to see what they had as they were both too young for the AHL and back to junior was their only avenue if not in the NHL. Usually players who do that end up being pretty solid players.

Likewise, Curtis Lazar made the Senators at age 19. In the same vein as Minten, he was considered a very good prospect yet was lauded more for his well-roundedness and intangibles than his skill level (even though his offensive pedigree was actually slightly better than Fraser's). Lazar's career shows us that those qualities will only take you so far.

Yeah I’m well aware of Curtis Lazar. Thanks.

The comparison is laughable.

If you compare their Draft, Draft+1, and Draft+2 seasons, he's not wrong with the comparison.

Lazar/Minten

Draft year - 72/58 GP, 38/20 goals, 23/35 assists.

Draft +1 - 58/57 GP, 41/31 goals, 35/36 assists.

Draft +2 - Both broke camp with their NHL teams. Lazar stayed up all year, Minten sent back down to WHL. Both captained their respective WJC teams in their D+2 year.

Yeah I guess if you just look at their stats I bet you’d find a lot of guys that look pretty similar.

Style of play as well. Both considered at those times solid two-way centermen with leadership ability. Good enough defensively to get looks in the NHL in D+2. Lazar was highly regarded once, 17th overall pick.

Minten could be Lazar, Patrice Bergeron, or anywhere in between. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I like the trade and the player. The comparison seems ridiculous upon first glance because we remember what a marginal player Lazar was for Boston, but there are no doubt similarities comparing their younger seasons.

They are literally nothing alike on the ice. Totally different skillsets.

Nothing to do with being a downer or a pessimist. They’re just very different players.

I haven't seen enough of Minten to know much about him on the ice other than he's considered a good two-way player.
