That video of Marchand is heart breaking. Who the f*** is giving these guys advice? Who is sitting in Marchand's corner, saying let's gamble with your happiness and the happiness of your wife and kids?

The only silver lining was the praise and respect he showed for Sweeney, and Sweeney's mutual admiration and praise in his press conference. It really seems like neither side wanted this separation.

Sad day for the Marchand deal...until he re-signs with the B's in the off season
It’s 100% happening

Brad is so fortunate Donny is such a peach (do young people still say that ?) and wants him back

Wayward children…..can’t live with them, can’t live without them

I’m just glad we got 3 months of chaos over this

I hear you, but that said, Brad is a 36 year old man who can make his own decisions here. If it was that important, he could have accepted the Bruins offer (he still would have had a good deal) and gotten on with things. So, clearly, whatever the advice from his agent, Brad felt that moving on was the thing he needed to do. I am not making a value judgement but simply pointing out that Brad ultimately decides for Brad and this is where it went.

yeah no way he got offered 3mil. That's insulting

If he wanted 8, and then game down to 7 and they offered 6.3 then bad job by him IMO if he really wanted to stay a Bruin. He will prob get 4/24 on the open market but still.
He is coming back I believe he juuuuuuuust bought a new home in the city

the property tax is probably why he wanted 7.5 M

I can’t blame him

Solution : $6.3 M for 3 years and Bruins pay Brad’s property tax and electric bill for December (here he’s a big Christmas guy)

I'll admit, my anger has tempered a bit since the contract details/ask, discussions have become more clear. Still not happy to see Marchand go, but it makes a bit more sense now why he was traded.

3yrs x $7M+ for him might seem like a lot, but he's definitely going to get an offer for that amount in free agency. The question would be is it from a team where he's willing to go.

He is, and that's fair.

I mean, I feel like it was that important to him, based on what he said and how emotional he was. Like, I see that and think there must have been a huge force pushing him in the other direction to convince a guy that emotional to make the decision to say no to the deal and move on.

You are right. Ultimately on him, but somebody told him, convinced him, it was a good idea. I want that guy shot.

Marchand hasn't played beyond the 2nd round since he was 31. I think its a coin flip
he will be effective if they go deep. I think its as likely as not Boston's offer is his best one.

Yes, I want him back. Absolutely. The fans want him back. The Bruins offered him $19m to come back. He wants to come back. This little trip to South Florida will be like Krejci's European vacation.

I'd be wary of that guy. His production has declined every year for the past three and even when he was good, it was because he was playing with world class linemates. He'll be just another Sweeney overpay that we'll have to pay someone to take off out hands in a year or so.
