Brad Marchand puts his hand around Nick Cousins' neck by the benches

More weird unacceptable shit from the weirdest player in the league. Just really no excuse for this kind of stuff at all, even the absolute worst of the Wilson/Trouba/{insert your rival's pest here} hits have been "hockey plays" to some miniscule degree. The league should have thrown the book at him after the licking incident and they should absolutely do so now.
A really odd lengthy way of deflecting from Wilson's repeated concussion delivering head shots.

I'm not deflecting at all, I'm stating that this is different to me than any of the many awful hits someone like Wilson has thrown in a pretty clear way

This is not that serious
I think that in a league with multiple huge scandals involving consent in the past couple of years it is that serious to come down hard on actions that are clearly outside of the (extremely large in the NHL!) bounds of what's considered acceptable contact with your coworker

Cousins has been pretty tame. Haven't really seen a hate worthy thing this year....I was hoping to see some fireworks but nothing. Hes just kind of there. I'm surprised he gets so much hate... He doesn't even hit much, let alone dirty hits.

Indeed - far, far less concerning in fact. If you prefer Wilson throwing a tantrum because he was bested in a hit he attempted to throw on one Bruin, racing across the rink to obliterate Carlo's head immediately after... that is a choice.

Save the outrage for Marchand at least slewfooting a player again, or an elbow to a head.

What an idiot, I’ve never seen anyone in the league. take off their glove and go for the choke hold.
That has to be a fine or a 1 game suspension, to say that’s not acceptable,

Even going back to last year outside of the Gudbranson hit, he was just kind of there. Maybe he shit talks a lot but wasn't that pesty for the Panthers

Not everyone can pull that one off and make it funny, but Marchand sure as hell did.

Yeah, I get it, but Cousins didn't appear to suffer even a little discomfort.
The ref acted quick to stop it. It's hard to really tell if the intention was to choke him or just troll him. I'm not sure the ref knew either based on how it was handled.

It has absolutely no place in sports, get out of here with this bullshit. There should never be any expectation when you play a game of hockey that some guy could grab your throat.

Did he even “grab” it though? If he put any force at all into that, Cousins would have done a bit more than just stand there.

What exactly is the concern here? Other players around the league are going to place their hand around other players’ neck and apply no force whatsoever while the victimized player looks on unphased?

It’s easy to get outraged when you focus exclusively on surface-level optics, but there’s nothing really at all happening here.

Gotta love Marchand. Just when you think he's cleaned up his act he's back swiping officials hands and grabbing throats. First ballot compete level stuff. If Boston tanks a contender would be lucky to get him at the deadline.

It wasn't your neck. So speculation is speculation on how much force was or wasn't used. The choking action didn't take place long enough to know if a player would have been phased or reacted different had the ref not stopped it immediately. Do I think Marchand was trying to choke him out? No. Am I 100% convinced that Marchand was trolling and trying to be funny? No.

It's also easy to turn a blind eye when you focus on just the outcome of the situation. I don't think anybody is screaming such an act of horrible violence here, but this is pretty ridiculous to see, and no matter the outcome, you can't argue against it having no business in any game played between 2 teams.

I don’t think he was trying to troll him, I think he was trying to bully him. They do not like each other- the bruins team as a whole doesn’t like Cousins. They respect a guy like Lomberg, i don’t think they have any respect for Cousins

Probably shouldn't pull the consent card when discussing Cousins

Puts a new spin on this....

I mean that is a whole separate issue, I don't think it's incongruent at all to think Cousins shouldn't be in the league and that what Marchand did was completely out of line regardless of who was on the receiving end

An elbow to the head or a slewfoot or even a sucker-punch or crosscheck to the face are accepted risks of playing in the NHL, getting choked out is not.
