I don't beleive signing Brad to a 3 year contract will help keep the B's competitive, and if anything quite the opposite. My guess is that the money used on Brad for the next 3 years, unless extremely cheap, could be used better elsewhere. I think his production will drop quickly, and other than leadership there isn't much else he'll bring.

The fan in me says Yeah, 3 more years of Brad, the last link.
The business fan in me say, better be super cap friendly, 2 - 3 million a year.

Have to think even as he ages he'd still be a more talented version of a Kobasew depth player. Certainly no top line winger of course.

Not at all opposed to this even though i've been down on Marchand to start the year like a lot of ya'll. I thought about it and i initially said i just wanted one year deals for him But then i kinda thought "well he's probably going to sign them a couple times anyway, so as long as the cap hit is low it's essentially the same thing." And given Marchand has seemed to value org over money, i can't see that changing.

Even as he's struggled this year he still shows a ton of value on the defensive side and especially on the penalty kill. Would definitely be a solid bottom sixer too

Trying to find a comp for Marchand is tough. The closest I found is the following...

Since the '22-'23 season Player A:
155GP / 38G / 138P
Players signed a 2yr / $4.1 million AAV last year at the age of 36yrs old

Marchand since '22-'23:
164GP / 51G / 140P

Let's say Marchand gave the Bruins a team friendly deal. He used Player A's 2yr contract and adjusted for today's cap and then spread it out over 3 years. This would put Marchand at 3yr/$2.75 million AAV. Being your captain you give him a little extra and make it a 3yr/$3 million AAV.

Would you rather sign Marchand for 2-3 years at $3M or sign Frederic for $4.5-5?

100% Marchand

Freddy is not getting that, nor should he unless he goes totally bonkers, no sign of that. No way on Marchand, soon to be 37, pass, one season at a time and that depends on the cost.

100% Marchand

I'm guessing Player A is Mats Zuccarello and it's a fair comparison. I would prefer to see Marchand signed for 2 years, even if the AAV was higher, but could probably live with 3 as long as it's under $3m p.a.

Fellow captain Nick Foligno signed with Chicago at age 36 for $9m over 2 years, but they have money to burn. The Flames also handed out a 2-year $9m deal to Mikael Backlund who is a slightly younger 35. With Brad a lot of it rests on how much more hockey he wants to commit to playing. He'll also be getting more of a feel as the days go by for how his body is shaping up post-surgery. That takes time. Have the operations given him a new lease on life, like Krejci after his hip surgery, or is he going to be closer to Rask who just didn't recover as hoped after his procedure? Certainly don't see him retiring any time really soon like Tuuk did, but you get the point.

I can’t imagine a scenario where 63 suddenly becomes worth this contract. He’s getting worse not better. Pay him yearly until he retires or wish him the best of luck with his next team.

Trade him at the deadline when we are a lottery team. Fire DS and Cam before the draft though.

For all Brad's points and bravado he has been a major factor in many choke jobs over the years.

Time for change is now.

No extension he can take a bonus laden deal year to year or end his career elsewhere.

Open up some cap space for next season.
