This summarizes the last five years of my life pretty succinctly. All that’s left is to stop drinking the nighttime “hey look, they’re up 2-0” KoolAid with the cyanide and rat droppings in it.

The only thing left.

Don't buy tickets/merch, don't go to games.

Does that mean don’t watch them on television or comment on them on social media? Is it a full boycott you are organizing or just a half-assed one? Because I haven’t been to a game since Ristolainen scored on Miller late in the game years ago….and I have only bought one goat head hoodie and knit cap…..but I do watch in television and follow them on social media.

Plenty of fans have done that and it hasn't mattered.

Only Columbus, San Jose, and Utah have a smaller percentage of fans in attendance at games this season.

And 5 teams are worse in raw attendance numbers: NYI, Anaheim, Winnipeg, SJ, and Utah.

And none of those other teams get propped up by fans travelling to see the "road team" in the way Buffalo does. It used to just be Bruin and Leaf fans (the B's fans from the old Niagara Falls junior affiliation days were great to talk to). But we see Pens fans drive up, Ranger and Islander fans beyond just the UB contingent fly up. They are getting ticket sales from fans of other teams which artificially props up the attendance figures.

The other problem here is there is a side hustle of season/game tickets being sold on the secondary market to hockey fans from Southern Ontario. I wonder if the league knows about/thinks about that ? Ultimately it helps keep a loser franchise in business for 20 years plus. Things might change with the value of the Looney if it continues dropping but does not seem to be yet.

I had an opportunity to go to the home opener in the 100s for free and turned the tickets down. I just have no interest in propping what they’re doing up financially, in any way.

I’d add to that Southern Ontario/Metro Toronto has the largest concentration of NHL fans (Not of the Leafs or Sabres). They can come down for a very inexpensive night of hockey to watch their favorite team/player relative to going to a Leafs game.

The benefit of being an easily won road game

That was more a problem when they were competitive. Now? Too many empty seats to get the same value.

My kids' hockey teams (different organizations) have been sending messages out in the past month that we have 50/75 Sabres tickets available. I would assume they are giving a ton of tickets away.

The funny thing is, they cant even find enough people to take the tickets. Nobody (hockey families mind you) can be bothered to attend a game in that palace of boringness and ear-piercing electronic music.

The issue with a boycott, is that the Sabres will relocate. Maybe it’s Pegula’s goal to maximize his investment in the team by selling it to say Quebec.

Anyway, being born in 1968, it’s been 54 years of Sabres hockey for me, 0-54 is pretty depressing, especially with an owner/situation being noncommittal to being a winning organization for the past bunch of years. Very evident he’s not trying to win.

Sucks

Yup. My extended family gave up our season tickets five years ago. The last couple seasons, we couldn’t give our tickets away. The demand wasn’t there. In a moment of insanity we split seasons again last season. Same thing, minimal demand in the secondary market. Which sucked because health issues prevented me from being able to attend any games. We got rid of them again.

100%

I haven't spent money on them in about 5 years.

They don't deserve my hard earned money

If Pegula moves the team then there is nothing you can do about it.

But giving them your money while they lie to your face isn't the answer either

Sabres attendance and viewership held up remarkably well for the first 5+ years of missing the playoffs. But now we have the second worst attendance in the league, and rightly so. I'm not boycotting the Sabres but I think like a lot of fans my interest in watching the games is waning.

The losing which is awful isn't even the worst part for me

It's the way the organization is run and the lying to us about it that really bothers me.
