Mod edit - that's not at all what he said. Closed.

Boudreau recently came out and said it. The Leafs don't have the pushback to win the cup. Can Dubas saves his job or is he just too in love with soft , small players who get negated in the tougher playoffs. This team could have trouble with Edmonton, Winnipeg(Dubois) or even a red hot Carey price.

Interested in comments because do we want Dubas to trade the future and scuttle the boat for a new GM?

Any team would be hard-pressed to win with there 3rd string goalie.
Leafs have been able to close out games this year, better than most. And have been one of the best in coming back to win as well. A healthy leafs roster is the best in the north but that doesn't guarantee them anything.

Who are the soft small players you are talking about?

Bruce Boudreau? Isn't this the guy who wanted to be the leafs assistant but we went another way? lmao

7 months ago he literally said "Even though they haven't had the success they'd like, I think they're good enough that they could be a stanley cup contender any year" when referring to the leafs in an interview about wanting to come home and coach

Boudreau salty he doesn't have a job with this organization and is probably trying to angle for one.

Also kinda funny when his teams always fell short in the playoffs.

Leafs/Dubas raised their toughness level this summer from non existent to league average. Now they could use a few more pieces to put them over the top in the toughness/size department.

Dubas said he was going to make the team more difficult to play against and his answer was to replace Cliffy with Simmonds and add Bogo to the D. Bogo has been great but Simmonds and Cliffy are a wash. The rest of his adds are no more difficult to play against as any other player on the roster other than Kappy, who could be a pain in the side when he wanted to be.

It's an opinion and opinions are all well and fine. I guess the team isn't built to succeed in the playoffs until they actually succeed in the playoffs. The core group is the same, but there could very well be new faces in important places in the lineup come playoff time (Brodie obviously and maybe also Simmonds, Thornton, Bogosian and Galchenyuk). Time will tell.

And that makes his opinion less valid than anybody's on this board ?? Pretty sure there are many others who have the same opinion as Bruce. O'Dog, Carlo, Versteeg come to mind but I know, they are FOS as well.

The leafs improved team toughness but only with one year contracts.
I do worry that team toughness/character will continue to be an issue for this team.
We need some “core” guys that fill this need. Not just guys on one year contracts.
Hopefully the management team is working on something:)

That’s like your opinion, man.

Seriously, I think there’s a kernel of truth and until the Leafs have success in the playoffs we won’t really know.

One example I want to point to is Alex Galchenyuk. He’s been finishing his checks pretty emphatically on defensemen on the forecheck. It’s refreshing and I think that’s the minimum buy in, especially for guys lower on the depth chart. Just want to compare and contrast to the guys like Engvall, Mikheyev and even Kerfoot who don’t always do that in support roles and how easy they make it for the opposition defense to make plays.

Compare and contrast to a little shift disturber like Kailer Yamamoto. That guy is like 5’6” of pure annoyingness just buzzing around cross checking people with his fake tough guy Darcy Tucker impressions. And we miss those kind of dirt bag players. It’s a minimum baseline for buy in.

or they may not have trouble with Edmonton. Winnipeg or Price.

Most fans gonna start dissing Boudreau but the man has a point. We've seen this over and over again for the last 4 years the leafs made the playoffs. This team lacks grit.

Adding Simmonds and Bogosian has been great. I like the addition of Galchenyuk, who seems like a gritty hustler type of player. All in all, there's needs be more of a team toughness type of mentality. They also need a top 6 Power Forward type of player badly.

Look at the Stanley Cup Finalists for the last 4/5 years.

Tampa
Washington
Boston
Vegas
St.Louis
Stars

Extremely imposing Physical teams

They need to bring in more toughness and skill at the deadline. Getzlaf, Coleman, Hyman, Ekholm, Oleksiak type players... guys that are not just tough but skilled.

We also need a goalie.

It's a lot. We're a good team but we need 2-3 more guys. 2 of those players and a goalie could go a long way and puts us in the hunt for an opportunity to win.
