Oilers get a cost controlled top-pair dman for another 3 years at $8 million after this season, Sens get a younger dman to play with Sanderson and adds to Yakemchuk and Kleven as a young core on D and has playoff experience for this group.

Not even a huge Chabot fan, but that's a no for Ottawa.

Bouchard's upcoming contract (especially away from McDrai on the PP) is a disaster waiting to happen. Worst in the league level deal. The Sens have a very similar, near NHL-ready player coming up in the pipeline in Yakemchuk, so Bouchard doesn't even fill a need.

They are if they don't want to spend $88 million dollars on Bouchard
He's an RFA.

If he signs any offer sheet above what, 60 mill (8.6x7) you get 4 1sts.

Heck you could even not give him a QO and 1 year at 3.9 mill still clears chabot at 8 mill x 4.

The fact that you think he commands an 11 mill deal as an RFA means that you know he's lightyears ahead of chabot

He’s an RFA and also he might take a discount in Ottawa

Chabot is playing absolutely great this year, their best defender this year for sure
If you let 20 games talk you out of a gift like this you are a fool

I think he commands 11 million because the Oilers are desperate and he gets a ton of points, many of those he wouldn't get with Ottawa.

Chabot also signed his deal 5 years ago, in a covid flat cap year, when the cap was 81m, it'll be 15m higher than that next season. Not exactly a fair comparison.

Bouchard is not a gift the Sens need or want I'd rather keep Chabot then trade him for D-man who's numbers are inflated by playing with two of the best players in the world. NTY from a Sens perspective. 11 m is too much to pay Tyson Barrie on steroids sorry but I'd rather spend that money to fill out holes on the roster.

Huh? Why would he do that?

Why would Ottawa downgrade without a major sweetener attached?

I know you despise the Oilers and that is probably coloring your view of things. I am an Oiler fan, but I criticize Bouchard for his weak defensive play a lot. However even his harshest critic wouldn't call him a downgrade on Chabot.

A sweetener in a Bouchard trade? A Right Shot, 82 point 25 year old defenseman?

That stretches credulity even on the HF boards.

Even though Bouchard is not that great defensively, at the very least the D-man coming back would need to be a right shot d-man and the deal with have to have other pieces to make it worth it for the Oilers.

That really isn't saying much lol.
Chabot has been arguably the most impactful D in the league this year in terms of how the team performs with him on the ice vs without him. Even at his worst, Chabot almost always tilts the ice.

FWIW Jensen has also played at a 1st pairing level.
