Boston is last in the East

This is unbelievable lol.

Boston is now last in the East and 4th worst in the league.

The Tampa, Boston, Florida & Toronto streak of leading the Atlantic is now over.

Some people had them dropping out of the playoffs, but I don't think many had them falling this hard.

The Swayman contract is a problem if he doesn't bounce back.

Do they retool and hope Swayman returns to form?

Or do they go full rebuild?

I believe they will attempt a retool, I don't think they are willing to accept a rebuild yet.

Didn’t they try the retool last summer signing Lindholm to be a top centre and Zadorov to be a top four D? And they got worse.
Zadarov is playing top-4 D now because Lindholm and McAvoy are out. Never meant to be playing top minutes. Thrust into that role and we know he isn't good enough for top-4.

The summer of 2023 Sweeney did a good job of plugging in some vets. Summer of 2024 he did a lousy job. Sweeney needs to have a much better summer coming up especially the draft.

I would say they were just trying to hang on instead of retooling last summer.

This is the first year where they actually started selling players, including Marchand which signifies the end of an era in itself.

It would be a total scorch of the rebuild if the decide to dispose of macavoy, lindholm, patarak, swayman, but i think with those kinds of peices still there, they will try to build around them, so it's a retool.

They have Pasta and McAvoy as elite core pieces. It’s going to be hard (lucky really tbh) for them to retool around two guys.

I give them credit, smart team knowing when to throw in the towel. No sense in going full Buffalo and also no sense being a middling team. I see this as the new trend. The Eagles retooled on the fly and it paid dividends. I don't think the "burn it to the ground" approach is the way to go. Losing culture is very hard to break.

I cant recall a time when the habs bruins rivalry was as low as it has been since covid.

They used to play each other all the time including playoffs. They have now gone 11 years without a post season matchup which is easily the longest drought in their respective histories.
Welcome to the NHL, the only professional sports league determined to end all rivalries and rob fans of all possible chances to get excited about games!!
(Speaking as a former Alberta-based sports' fan: The Flames and Oilers had to wait... oh, only 31 years to meet again in the playoffs. Nowadays, they play each other about twice a year. Can't imagine why the rivalry is nothing now.)

Well done, NHL. Well done!

I think they handled the TDL extremely well, are getting a lottery pick and still have Pastrnak, McAvoy and Swayman of which no one is still too old. They'll be fine.
