Brad Marchand is 5'7 and hes 10x tougher and more physical than Jimmy Hayes who is nearly a foot taller. Height doesn't mean much in hockey for forwards if they have the skill and tenacity to offset their lack of size.
He's 5'9.

Martin St Louis was 5'7 too. Its not about how small you are, its how you use your size. Escapability, and when you're a gifted scorer, you will continue being that.
Overall how do you grade the Bruins 2016 draft?

Overdramatizing on McAvoy much?
McAvoy was the guy I wanted, so I was happy about that pick. Saw him several times this year, serious upside there.
Beyond that I haven't seen these guys play so I'm not sure how I (we?) can grade them. I don't buy the "trade back" argument. Did anyone trade up in the second round? No, so how could we trade back without a dance partner?
That said, definitely disappointed in the lack of trade activity.
When you need a top 6 winger, and a top 4 defender. You walk away with less than you should of from the draft table. I would call this an F.
I gave him an F not because of the players he took, since we honestly won't know what they are for years, but for failing to fill any of their current holes on the roster.
Hindsight is wonderful. But you'd have a hard time finding a Bruin's fan at the time complaining about the pick. Especially after seeing how mobile and intimidating he was at the blue line........until he hurt is knee. Many of us have lamented, not so much about Brian Bellows, but what could have been with Bourque and Big Klu on defense for a decade or so.Nah the hits were as bad as Im saying.
I ignored the McAvoy thread so I don't hate on him in there and sometime in July I'll accept the pick for what it is and get behind him to develop and help the team but I am extremely disappointed with it. The terrible 2nd first rounder from a trade we all thought we clearly won doesn't make matters any better.
Not to mention I would bet my life that all 3 of our 2nd round D prospects taken in the last 2 years turn out better than the 2 1sts. So that just sucks given who we passed on and chose over them both years there was top line talent on the board.
What would have been wrong with Bellows you still get the same benefit of watching him develop @BU? Sinden taking Kluzak over his dad 30 some years ago still stings a little bit.
You were expecting the Bruins to draft a kid at #29 that was going to slot right into the lineup? When you need a top 6 winger, and a top 4 defender. You walk away with less than you should of from the draft table. I would call this an F.
I don't know a single thing about any of these players so can't comment until I see them in a Bruins uniform . I am always amazed at just how much hockey some people here seem to watch . During the regular season I watch the Bruins and that's it .

I was expecting 29 + spooner for a dman
Youre not getting a top pairing for that.
The ask is more as evident by Shatt and Fowler and related reports.
We have enough 4-7 guys.
You cant pay Watertown prices for Weston real estate.
Guys like that generally don't get traded. And I think they were also asking on players a level above Shatt and Fowler, which is a good thing.
They need to go BIG or stay home and wait for the next gen. Preferably they go big and find someone who can lead the next gen

So the draft has passed. Shattenkirk is still a Blue. Reports are prices on Top 4 D are softening.
If you use Boston's 2017 1st and Spooner as the basis of a deal, what more do they need to add to convince St. Louis to cough up Shattenkirk?
I'd rather not deal from Boston's prospect depth on D, but begger's cant be choosers as they say. I would be willing to add another young forward not named Vatrano or Pastrnak.
I'd also gladly toss in one of McQuaid or Hayes but that might sour the pot more than sweeten it.

I'm wondering what the grades would be if the B's took the exact same players, but got Lindgren at 29 and Frederic at 49.
Guessing they would be higher?![]()
