Would have to be Pettersson for Barzal. If Vancouver has no interest in trading Pettersson there is nothing there getting Barzal.

Barzal is worth more but why would Vancouver do this? They're already committed to Horvat and Pettersson. Also Boeser is one of the most popular guys in the room. Part of the "squad" clique. The lesser known guys like Josh Leivo and Motte always speak highly of him like he's their best friend on the team. His stats might not show it but he's basically unmoveable except for a killer deal.

The players, especially Horvat and Hughes were fairly upset with the loss of Tanev and Markstrom. Tanner Pearson extension was most likely to appease Horvat.

There's similarities between the two teams which makes a trade even more impractical. Like you're saying about Pettersson/Horvat, Isles have Barzal/Nelson. Two totally different type of centers that are kinda Yin and Yang to each other. Moving one doesn't satisfy the other and disrupts chemistry.

Isles are getting better but they got burnt on the roadtrip (started out well, ended horribly) and matters were made worse by Covid as they opened the home arena. Obviously the Nucks blew chunks but look like a totally different team lately.

Vamcouver does this because it's a considerable upgrade of a player. It's moot because the Islanders would never move a young 1C for a streaky winger. But either way you're asking the wrong question.

Similar to Laine for Dubois I guess. I could see it but Vancouver has to add a bit most likely. Depends if Boeser keeps this going and Barzal keeps being stagnant

Sure, if Boeser scores 80 goals in two years and Barzal demands a trade. Then it will be like Laine for Dubois.

Except that Barzal is significantly better than Dubois and Boeser is significantly lesser than Laine.

Naw. Barzal and Dubois are maybe even. Barzal is more fun to watch, but he's not better.

There's a pretty large difference in Barzal's offensive output and PLD's.

Who’s playing center alongside Boeser and Lee if the Islanders make this swap? This trade is one step forward to go 3 steps back for them.

I am not understanding why Pettersson has been brought up in trade threads lately. Does he have a disagreement over how he's being used? Are Canucks fans comfortable with Miller being 1C all the time? Is Gallant's system one people don't think EP can handle?

I would understand a Barzal/Pettersson swap if both seemed unhappy but Barzal seems to love being "the man" on the Island.

There's been speculation that Pettersson was and has been unhappy with how he was last in line the summer of his current deal.

upgrade on who? They aren’t moving EP or BH to 3rd line and they aren’t trading them either. Canucks center depth is strong already in the top 6. They don’t need another top 6 center.

Sorry, but trading anything less then an Elias Pettersson for Barzal wouldn't get it done. He's a stud and it would take that caliber of player for player trade to make it work
