Rumor: Boeser and Canucks are not close- Teams Continue to show interest- Canucks contemplating on keeping him for playoffs and letting him walk as UFA

Canucks and Boeser want different things in regards to AAV and Term in an extension.

Canucks are contemplating on just keeping him as their own rental and letting him walk as a UFA despite many teams calling them to inquire about a trade for Boeser.


IMO the best 2 options are:

1. Sign Boeser 5-6 years around 7.5 mil. See if he will take a home team discount
2. Trade Boeser (1st and prospect value) and do not let him walk away for nothing.


Boeser would be incredibly hard to replace for the Canucks, especially if they plan to compete during Prime Hughes years. There are some that are concerned that Boeser's game wont age well and i completely disagree. I think his game will age just fine because he is a player that has never ever relied on speed. His game is all about IQ-and positioning and Lethal accurate shot. He will age like Toffoli imo. only 27 yrs old btw.

If the season is a write-off should the club trade him then? No point in losing him for only cap space July 1 if he can return assets now and clear off his cap, is there?

if they can't get him under long term contract. personally i think the canucks should rebuild. sell pettersson, boeser, demko, etc. the only hard question is what to do with quinn. is he going to stick it out if canucks go scorched earth?

Agreed, there's no reason they should let him walk away for nothing especially since they arent real cup contenders.

IMO this is all just a bluff, to try and force Boeser's camp to agree to a shorter term deal like 5-6 years.

I'm sure Boeser wouldnt be thrilled going into the rest of the season and possibly playoffs with out a contract.

He would be risking injury that can effect his pay day. Especially for him who had to miss game 7 last year because of blood clot.



I wouldnt be surprised if the Canucks trade him at the deadline. Likely though i think they come to a middle ground. 6 yrs 8mil. AAV.
I would be SHOCKED if they let him walk away for nothing.

Seems like the club is retooling and moving Boeser would help with that.
 
He won’t be coming to Minnesota until the summer, if he ends up back home as rumors have suggested. No cap space and no expiring that could facilitate the deal. Not to mention they just spent a fortune in futures on Jiricek.

Figured we should get that way out of the way, bc the Brock Nelson thread went to hell bc Isles fans wanted 1st + prospect for a guy the Wild can’t afford until July. I don’t blame them, but it just wasn’t feasible from a cap perspective
 
Canuck fans can hate me for this but I do not see the canucks doing massive damage in the playoffs. If BB wants to leave? I would see what you can get for him and if it is say a 1st and a good prospect? They should consider trading him. But if it anything less--then no. I hate losing a player for nothing but giving him away for late picks and b level prospects sends the wrong message to fans and the teams

I think you’re right. Either a bluff for leverage with Boeser or to extract a better deal from a potential trade partner.

Season has already been catastrophic for the nucks, letting him walk to FA is just throwing good money after bad

Keeping him for the playoffs would be such a pissoff and feel like Aquilini getting his grubby little hands in there again. This isn’t last year where the team is playing well and it’s worth taking a chance. If he wants the bag, trade him for whatever you can get.

It would be one thing if they were a true top contender, but I think they ought to make a realistic evaluation on their chances of winning a Cup this year, and then make a sensible choice considering asset management and the overall big picture. It just doesn't seem like the smart move here

Only 2 more years left of Hughes' below market contract (albeit close to $8M).

Trading BB for prospects doesn't allow Canucks to stay competitive unless they can sign a very productive free agent this summer with their $14M+ of cap space.

And (or) use the Boeser assets to trade for a player they want. Allvin has a history of doing things like that.
 
Legitimately what are the Canucks doing? Do they have any kind of coherent long-term plan? Are they capable at all of making decisions based off of more information than just the last 6 months of results?

There was talk of Vancouver interest in Dylan cozens

Would be an interesting trade, sabres could extend or let boser go and they get out of a contract they might not want any longer as they signed cozens to be a center

Vancouver gets a player signed long term and could develop him more as a wing. Plus without the pressure to be a top six center could flourish
 
yes ok keep him as a rental for 5playoff games if we make it....WTF is going on

sounds about as stupid as signing a 30yr old back up goalie to 5yrs with trade and movement protection

Aquilini must be back making the decisions.

The Canucks back at it again making stupid decisions to disrespect everyone from STHs to the actual good players that played hard for the jersey

hes gonna be traded. cant make that same mistake that benning did with hamhuis that was so so dumb on his part. plus pearson at the time being healthy instead resigned him..
