Bob Nystrom.

One of the first hockey players to wear a ear ring a tough no nonsense player who would fit on any team

as much as I hate to say it, the islanders were bad ass in the early 80's in all areas. I remember Nystrom beating the crap out of Hospador and he was never the same.

Bobby was a legend.

He had a few losses in his career but on balance he was a very special fighter who brought it hard. Granite chin and explosive temper.

I am about his age and grew up in Saskatoon and Thor fights I would most want to see was the multi fight series he had in juniors with Bob Gassoff. Nystrom played for Calgary and Gassoff played for Medicine Hat and I think they went at least 4 times in a short span of time. Gassoff was the WHL champ at the time and an animal in juniors but I am guessing this series would have been epic. According to one of Gassoff's brother's it was a war.

Great video. Those punches are just coming in so fast from both hands and from all angles, how do you defend a guy that seemingly is trying to beat you to death as fast as he can?

Gave it pretty good to Wensink, and a young pre-juice Scott Stevens got fed so many uppercuts I'm surprised he ever dropped the gloves again.

Bobby Ny was a terrific fighter and a better player. He was HOF player IMO - didnt have the regular season stats but he was unbelievable in the playoffs........the bigger the game the better Bobby played, especially in OT where he scored a number of goals including the '80 Cup winner.

With Gillies and Nystrom nobody messed with the Islanders back in the early 80's.
