@LAKings Bob update-Ate breakfast-sitting up in chair-All going well-Expected to be moved from ICU this afternoon
“@LAKingsPR: Bob Miller update. He is likely to leave the hospital in 24-48 hours to head home. Following the advice of the medical pros first though!â€

Those are not fun. "Successful surgery" when the patient is being transported to the ICU instead of telemetrics has me concerned. However, might just be policy/protocol given by hospital. In Canada it's $200/minute to run an operating room. So our Bob surgery is 48,000 in raw cost of OR time, not including ICU/step dow/telemetrics. Not sure his much it costs in the states for raw OR cost/minute, but something to think about.

Hope for another update soon.

I think that's how it's done in the states, same protocol for my dad.

Yeah, I think ICU is pretty normal in this case for the first few days at least.

He's also really old. It's probably better to have him in ICU for precautionary reasons.

A freaking quadruple bypass is no minor surgery. Makes absolute sense to watch him in the ICU especially given age.

Great news to hear it was a success, and best of luck to Bob in his recovery.

Have a get well card for Bob Miller? Bring it to the Bailey's Buddies booth Sec 117 Thursday & we will deliver it to him! Please retweet!

I'm grateful he didn't have to have a heart attack to find out he needed quadruple bypass surgery. As you get older...DON'T MISS THOSE YEARLY CHECKUPS!

And cut back on the beer and wings Mittens! You're a ticking timebomb!

:D

Another thing to consider is the the word ICU keeps getting used. I would bet it's actually CCU, coronary care unit, which is a form of ICU but special for just heart patients. And it is very standard practice to move anyone after bypass surgery there for a day or even two.
I've been through this more than once with my family.

ICU is extremely normal for a day or two. My wife had open-heart surgery for an aortic aneurysm two weeks ago at Cedars-Sinai. She spent two days in ICU, and 2 1/2 days in the cardiac surgery recovery room before being discharged. She is now on day 16 of her recovery with me at home taking care of her. She's still in some pain but making good progress. They say at 6 weeks you feel almost back to normal. Having a quadruple bypass is no small deal for a person in their 70's like Bob. My wife is 27 years younger and it's kicking her butt, and she is one that doesn't complain. He should take the rest of the season off to recover for himself and his family. We are in good hands with Nick and company. Knowing Bob as we feel we do, he may come charging back in late March or April.
