Bob McKenzie Draft Lottery Edition Top 16 rankings

Excuse my lack of paying attention but what did Hagans do to slowly drop in all rankings

I remember at one point he was ranked #1 and then dropped to #2 and now he’s down to 5
Disappointing year besides world juniors with the loaded US squad.

I had no idea Hagans discussion was such a touchy subject amongst some fans here!! Sorry!!
No worries, you couldn't know. But now you've been told the cardinal rule of HF's prospects board: never mention the word "Hagens" in a 2025 draft thread if you can at all avoid it.

Now that we (especially us Canadians) have acknowledged Hagens' obvious superiority, I'll note that this list has no real surprise. O'Brien and Aitcheson rose a bit, as expected, but few changes compared to the mid-season list. Also the scouts don't seem very put off by theMcQueen/Bear injuries, though it might just be that they don't take them into account for these rankings.

Hagens a case of over scouted?
Little bit of that. Little bit of other guys. Little bit of he was underwhelming at times. IMO.

I think it’ll be interesting to see if he was underwhelming when he went up a level because he’s not that talented or if he’s underwhelming because he’s physically immature and very young relative to his league.

Canada has 69% of the good players in this draft and everyone from the other countries we’re told is a faller and has had a bad season.

It’s totally believable.

I read something somewhere that Hagens actually suffered from playing with Leonard and Perrault because he wasn't the same fit with them as Will Smith was the previous year, both at BC and the US WJC team. I really haven't seen Hagens enough to judge, but, as a Canadian, I will reaffirm my desire to see the Flyers pick Misa, Frondell or Hagens while acknowledging that Hagens is the best prospect. LOL!

If you're not even as good as Will Smith, that's concerning.

Please take Misa so I don't have to watch him on the god forsaken blackhawks or pens.

I don't think the commentator was implying he wasn't as good as Will Smith, just that the expectation was when Smith moved up the Sharks, that Hagens would step in between the wingers and BC and the WJC team would not miss a beat, but the chemistry wasn't the same.

Seems like a silly thing to say. Smith was a great prospect in his draft year who was picked #4 and had a very good rookie year for the Sharks while also making the U.S. world championships team. I think Hagens is better, but to be compared to him shouldn't be a slight.

Chemistry isn't a convincing excuse. Sure, it might be a thing when you first played together in the beginning. But you have all season long to figure out everyone's tendencies. Instead, his play has actually tailed off. Hagens is the most puzzling prospect in recent year within the span of 1 season. Remember at the beginning of the season, he was thought to be consensus 1OA?
