Chiasson - 4 goals in 5 games, Zadina - 3 goals in 35 games.
Zadina is having his worst shooting percentage season since his NHL debut in 2018-19, but it fits in line with his overall NHL career. His PPG are absolutely cringe worthy, once again indicating that he's a good AHL player.

Chiasson, who is a career 13% shooter, has doubled that this season. He's also 32. His season is an outlier, albeit a pleasant one. Zadina sadly is exactly what the first ~200 games of his NHL career indicate.

He's overplayed on a bad team. I don't think it's that complicated. He's only played about ~40 games in a season at most. Now he's already at 50+. Maybe he could handle that if he was playing on like.. Boston. But it's just too heavy a workload on this team.
I agree that it sounds like this simple answer if you look at Husso alone. But why does it feel like the exact same thing happened (but maybe even more extreme) with Ned and Greiss? Is there a worrying trend?

He actually has been one of the best shot generators on the team the last 2 years, if you look at shots/60.

But when you can't convert on those shots, you aren't going to get more minutes. When you look at the top shot generators in the league, his shooting % is more in line with Josi/Hamilton than any of the forwards on the list.

That sounds a lot like Penn State hockey's approach to offense: throw everything at the net, no shot is a bad shot. His shooting percentage has been consistently awful as an NHL player. We're at nearly 200 games, tough to see him magically getting anywhere near a 20% shooting percentage.

Who said the spite was for Vrana?

Now do the rest of the players. There weren't a lot of chances.

Though at the heart of it, I don't put a ton of stock in assessments of skill guys from someone who idolizes LFG... :sarcasm:
Well then fine... everyone sucked, including Vrana

I have not seen the data, but I would guess that the improvement in shots against has been much better than any improvement in expected goals against. So Detroit is giving up fewer chances, but the chances they do allow still include several doozies per game. Which might actually be harder for the goaltender, if they're not as able to get in a rhythm prior to a grade A scoring chance.

Oh good, we're bashing Zadina?

Even when gifted a glorious opportunity he:
1. Took forever
2. Put it in the dead center of the net.

This is the NHL. Even when gifted a glorious chance with tons of time, you get to choose one. Not both.

I'm so over this guy. Don't get how he's still in the NHL

it went in who tf cares how it went in.
some people are maddening.

Does it matter how it went in in terms of winning this hockey game? No.
Does it matter in terms of evaluating his ability and future as an NHL player? I'd say so.

And half a second IS long in NHL time. I actually scrubbed through the highlights of the game randomly to try to evaluate Zadina's release vs other players in slow motion. I gave up after 5/5 other plays I clicked on were all one timers

it absolutely is not. There was nothing wrong with that goal. Took quick reflexes to catch off the rebound and caught it and released. Not every goal has to be a one timer.

He will never be a big time goal scorer at this point. But nit picking that goal is crazy. Wellll if he could’ve shot a fraction of a second quicker. If my aunt had nuts she be my uncle. He scored and it was a nice goal

Same thing with Ned last year. He had played similar to Husso last year the year before and then 59 last year. What makes Ned different than Husso?

Husso hasn't dropped off as much as Ned. Even on Husso's off nights he's at least maintaining something close to a .900.

I thought Zedina has played his best hockey lately. I think he has made a huge step forward. I thought he would never make it.
Berggren has cooled off lately.

I didn't watch the whole games.
Edvidson looked very good to me.

He literally has an .887 in his last 31 GP, which is well under .900 most nights.

Also, Ned finished last year .901 after being .920 after about 15 starts, which is very close to Husso after the similar amount of games this year. Ned has fallen off just as much as Ned did last year.

Do we have a goalie coach who is considered one of the better ones in the league? That would be my first thing to look at, but I honestly have no idea.

I think Detroit has a new goalie coach.

The discussion on this page shows how important it is to have a quality backup i this league. Husso is overworked by about 10-12 games so far. And the backups we have in Ned and Hellberg necessitate that.

If this team didn’t have backups that were AHL caliber they’d be 10 points higher in the standings.
