Berube has given Binner plenty of opportunities to reverse the funk vs bad teams. He got a long stretch of time off to hit the re-set button, playing 1 game in a 4 week stretch in January/February. Berube has been spot starting him with favorable matchups since. Edmonton was the first playoff team he's faced since the end of January and that was only because we had a road B2B where the other team was 2nd in the Conference.

Since he got blown up against Calgary on 1/24/22, he's played against the Flyers (twice), the Hawks, the Devils, the Isles, the Sens, the Jets and the Oilers. That's 5 games against bottom 7 teams in the NHL, 2 more games against non-playoff teams and a single game vs a playoff team. The team is 2-4-2 in those games and Binner has an .888 in that stretch. There have definitely been a couple "the team deserves some blame too" games in there, but he hasn't been close to good enough. More recently, we're 0-3-2 in his last 5 starts, with one of the two OT losses being the result of Husso coming in and helping the team claw back from a 4-1 hole.

We're 5 points back of the Wild and 4 points up on Nashville. Those teams play each other tomorrow, so at least one of them is adding points to their total. Snagging points tonight is more important than hoping Binner can have a bounce-back night that actually has lasting impact on his play. He had two strong games vs the Flyers and Hawks last month, but wasn't able to translate those into sustained success.
To add on here…at some point we have to move on from the past and look at the guy who has put together a fantastic season and has earned the right to be called the starter.

Binnington was the starter when we won the Cup. Most of us probably feel endeared to him for helping us reach what looked like a distant mirage for so long. But, he has been given many chances to rebound this year, without succeeding in that quest. That doesn’t mean his Cup year isn’t still a fond memory, it just means that this year won’t be a fond one for his play.

Do the Coyotes have ANY players in their lineup tonight who you would want on Blues n right now? They have some who used to be good and some who are young and may be good, but I don’t think they have single guy out there tonight who would crack our lineup.

i dont like marco or rosen starting over mikkola
I am not sure I would use the word like to explain any of them.

I am indifferent to Rosen thus far. Mikkola has been inconsistent. Scandella doesn’t look like much of an NHL player anymore. He seems around a #7 D in quality these days.

Another odd-man break, and yet another great move by Thomas for a good scoring chance. He's really been stellar tonight (as he has been the last five games).

Marco may not be legit NHLer anymore but that doesn’t say much fir Miko, who is clearly worse.
