Well that was heartbreaking.
Let me start off by asking - who the f*** were the announcers last night? Jesus they were f***ing horrible. Loads of dead air time. Almost no calling of game action. There was a moment late in the third where Snuggy had a chance in the slot and they were talking about something completely unrelated in a tone that reminded me of two people talking about the weather and they just kept droning on about whatever the f*** it was during and after the chance. It felt like I was watching two people who happened to be watching their first ever hockey game and simply commenting on what they've heard about the sport through social media. I mean seriously, that had to be the worst PBP announcer I've ever heard. I'm not really a big fan of John Kelly, but f***ing Christ he made John Kelly look like vintage Mike Lange by comparison. I'm not sure who the lady color person was, but oh my god please never again. I was ready to jump off a bridge by the time the game was over, and not just because of our total lack of a coherent playstyle. Like holy shit no f***ing wonder this sport can't break through if that's what we get on national broadcasts.
Ok, thank you all for letting me get that out - now on to the game. Perry is still a total prick, and the refs not throwing the book at him over his blatant cheap shot to Binny's head is in keeping with the NHL. I was actually really impressed that Binny kept it together after the second guy ran him, I think that shows a f***ing ton of growth on his part - I don't think Perry's antics got in his head at all, I think he played pretty well, but sometimes McJesus is going to McJesus and you just have to hope it's not against your team.
Our offense has looked like dooky since Holloway went down. He was clearly the driver of that second line, and without him we're now back to having a 1 line team like we've had for the last 2ish years before this one. Kyrou has taken a ton of steps forward, but I still have yet to see him become the driver that I hoped he would be. In my mind, Holloway has supplanted Kyrou as our best/most important overall winger.
I'd like to see Bolduc play with Schenn and Snuggy if we're going to keep Kyrou up on the top line, or Bolduc with Schenn and Kyrou if we want to elevate Snuggy back up. Bolduc's best asset is his shot, and he's wasted with Sunny and Neighbors, since neither of them have the skill/vision to get him the puck in space. I think we're trying to build three scoring lines with our current set up, and we should consolidate that down to two with Neighbors/Sundqvist/Joseph playing a similiar style to the WTF line.
Dvo is so so so clearly not ready. He needs a lot of time in the gym and we need to help him get his skating figured out - it's 100% going to hold him back if we can't get him up to at least NHL average.
The Tucker/Suter pairing is starting to show it's slowness. As the intensity ramps up, it's hard not to notice that they are both consistently a half step slow. I think the same thing happened to Suter last year as well - he's clearly a great Oct-March guy, but April+ seems to be above his ability at 40 (No shame in that, but felt worth pointing out).
We are still very much in the driver's seat here - we have Seattle and Utah who have nothing to play for these last two games. Calgary has a HUGE game on Friday against Minnesota, if they lose that game at all (Regulation or OT) we basically only have to win one of our last two to clinch. Last night hurt a lot to not get a point, but despair not, for we will overcome
