Woah woah woah, there was a f***ing metalcore conversation going on in here and I missed it? f***, these are my people! I saw August Burns Red mentioned, one of my all time favorite bands. LOVE Lamb of god, mastodon, BMFV….but my all time favorite has to be Parkway Drive. Those Aussies know how to do it.

I love Metalcore, Last year I went and got to see Beartooth, The Plot In You, INVENT ANIMATE, Sleep Theory, I Prevail, Hollywood Undead, Wage War, Bad Omens, and a bunch of other bands between Pops, Hollywood Amp, STL Music Park, and Red Flag. So far there hasn't been many other Concerts out there, But I am so far Planning that concert and then the Three Days Grace and Disturbed Concert as well.
Invent Animate and Silent Planet are coming to town in a few months! At Red Flag!

I’m incredibly picky with metal - I only like a couple of bands, but haven’t listened to really any of the bands listed above (except lamb of god). Devildriver is by far my favorite - what type of metal would they be classified as?

Someone may have a better term, but to me they’re metalcore. There are different variations/eras of metalcore to me, with metalcore being the umbrella term for that genre. They’re in that same vein as LoG to me.

My favorite from that era though will always be Avenged Sevenfold. Their run of the albums Waking the Fallen to Nightmare is up there with the all time greats of the genre.

It’s tough to categorize Devildriver, but I’d say melodic death metal. It’s all so crossed over that categories are down to good and bad.

My kid really likes Avenged Sevenfold but i just couldn't stand the lead singers voice. Just grated at me. This is coming from a guy who loves Dave Mustaine and Axle lol.

lol yeah most people I know that don’t like them that’s the reason why.

And at least with Mustaine the music is so good I can kinda look past the vocals lol

I actually like their lead singer's voice. Have four of their songs. But again, I listen to most anything. Metal, punk, alternative, rock, rap, R&B, pop, occasional country, really, anything that sounds good, I'll put on my iPhone.

Do you use Spotify or anything like that? I love being able to listen to any album, but it’s also nice because after the album is finished it’ll switch to an “artist radio” and play stuff based on whatever you just listened to. It’s a cool way to find new stuff.

Me too. I like all genres of music. Anything from Hank Jr to Sade to Metallica to Bjork, depends on the day and the mood. Love Mastodon (non-screamo), Acid Kings (along with most all other stoner metal/rock), AIC, Rainbow (Dio era) but the real kicker and please don't kick me off the forum for this....my very favorite band is Stryper. Love Micheal Sweet. Hardest working (and most righteous lol) man in rock music. Their music just keeps getting better and better from 1984 to this year.

Sadly, no. I just purchase songs or listen to them on YouTube (there's some really good songs and song covers on YouTube that aren't on iTunes at all, sadly, and I want to have them on my iPhone). But y'all have given me so many metalcore bands to potentially listen to that I may not ever run out of stuff to listen to.

Only genre of music I really won't ever listen to is probably blues. I just can't get into it. But I'll listen to anything good, so there's probably a blues song out there I could end up liking.

Love me some blues. I guess the only music I don't ever willingly listen to is rap. I can't begin to explain how much I detest rap.

I'm different in that regard, I guess. I really do like rap, but it depends on the type of beat and lyrics. But one song that I recommend to anyone, even those who hate rap, is Uncommon Valor by Jedi Mind Tricks featuring R.A. the Rugged Man mainly because of the verse by the latter (although the first verse is amazing as well). It's one of the single best songs of any genre I've ever read because of the sheer message behind it and the true story being told by R.A.

For rap the only “newer” (like post 2010) ones I can really get into are Kendrick Lamar and Denzel Curry. Denzel even has a cover of Rage Against The Machines “Bulls on Parade” lol

When I discovered Psyclon Nine about 15 years ago, they became one of my favorite bands. They have seven LPs with five of them being outstanding.

This is from their 1st LP (2003)

And this one is from their 4th LP (2009)

It seems like most people like lots of different types of music, but have two genres that rotate the most with other stuff peppered in. I listen to metal and industrial the most, but pepper in lots of different stuff.

I love rap, but am picky. Back in the day it was Run DMC, Public Enemy, EPMD, Eric B and Rakim, NWA you get the picture. Anything Too Short is like the Midas Touch! He's still pumping out his own very solid rap while producing a shit ton for others. Busy man.

Beastie Boys are in a category all on their own.

For the newer rap, I love Danny Brown, Killer Mike, Run the Jewels, Ab Soul, Russ, Kevin Gates & JID. Andre Nickatina is a bad ass rapper and Mac Dre (RIP) and EP40 were/are also great Bay Area rappers.

This fun Mac Dre tune from 2002 is the shit.

Saw a dude in a Tkachuck Blues jersey yesterday.

I yelled out “Keith Tkachuk”! And he pumped his fist and yelled back. Funny.
