Thank God we are coming back to stl. Can't stand listening to the avs fans boo at every single play that goes against them. Makar falls down in the corner with no one around him they boo. Avs player runs into Binninton they boo. Avs players randomly falling down they boo like they should get a penalty

I saw someone say that the game reminded him of if Twitter replies sold out the arena in real life. That's about the most apt analogy you can come up with for how whiny they were last night particularly.

I was impressed by the TNT panel last night, and the work of their team. The breakdown showing how the Blues were sending one forward in and setting up a 4 man neutral zone formation to slow the Avs was good insight to give us in live action. Contrast that to JR’s article in the Athletic where he explains that the Blues forechecked harder. It’s the difference between listening to guys who played in the NHL and a local reporter who has no hockey background, but fell into a national gig.

I’m trying to think of a series where Bednar showed the ability to make adjustments to win, and I’m coming up blank. Colorado is a more talented team, but I’m not sure they are capable of a ‘team’ game the way the Blues are. MacKinnon was neutralized by ROR pretty well. What I saw as a response was a few Avs players trying harder to make individual plays, including Landeskog and MacKinnon. I’m waiting for MacK’s frustration to start to show up and bleed into his teammates.

If you were the Avs, what would you do to counter the Blues’ neutral zone play? It forces them to dump amd chase, and gives Binnington more opportunity to play the puck. I think maybe they start trying to pummel Blues defenders more, amd have to win board battles. But that’s the game the Blues want to play. Will be interesting to see what Berube does when he controls the matchups, but I still think ROR is on MacK.

show me where its stated that i said the refs cost them the game

have fun wasting more of your time LMAO and good luck
Look at those goalposts move!

Crazy how you're only whining if you say that the refs are the sole reason a team loses, but other people are whining whenever they say something you don't like.

ROR is 100% drawing MacKinnon line evey chance Berube gets. Last night has to be one of the best defensive games I've ever seen O'Reilly play. And that's saying a lot for a guy who makes his paycheck playing that way. The play behind the net in the 3rd period to tie up MacKinnon was a thing of beauty.

I think there are times when the team struggles where people start to question if Berube is genuinely a good coach, but last night should put that to bed IMO. It's not just changing goalies at the right time or going with 11/7 to shelter the minutes of some of the guys and maximize the PP with Perunovich, but tweaking lines in an effective way, the decision to go with 5 forwards on the 5v3. Berube is good at managing the players, and also with his staff. Montgomery has done great work with the PK and Ott with the PP. Montgomery being a great coach makes sense because he always was just had off-ice stuff, but Berube has done great work in developing Ott and Van Ryn.

I think the results speak for themself, he's a damn good coach. Having 2-3 other head coach caliber guys on the bench with him can't hurt either. We've got a hell of a staff, that's for sure.

And considering how inexperienced Van Ryn and Ott were when they started, their development as coaches has been huge.

Ott the coach makes that Miller trade better lol.

Honestly Tocc bringing up the 1-4 forecheck is some of the best hockey analysis I’ve seen on a national broadcast. He’s great for TNT and I’m gonna miss him when he gets another coaching gig

What’s the beef with Phoenix, besides maybe the heat?

Just had a friend of mine ask if I potentially wanted to get a house out there next year, since they’re way cheaper than anything in the LA area.
Nothing, it's great. I lived there for 4 years before recently moving back to STL.

It's still more expensive than STL of course, but not as bad as LA so tons of Californians move to AZ. It's a fun place to live.

I’m definitely considering it! I love living in LA, and have been here since the end of 2014, but with the inflation making everything that much more expensive, it’s getting hard to not look at other options going forward.

Would prefer to stay on the west coast though, and being a 6 hour drive, or very short flight from here is also a positive.

That LA weather is perfect. Can I ask what type of work you do?

I’ve been doing some work in the weed industry with some friends since the pandemic happened, but it’s a waaaay over saturated market out here. Wouldn’t mind doing something with it there if I do make the move, but also pretty open for pretty much anything. From what I’ve read, the job market in AZ is pretty booming.

So read the newest article for the avalanche on the The Athletic and they talked about 10 things they can do better. Half of them were they just had to play better. The other we’re getting in front of Binnington and limit how Binnington plays the puck. They had quotes from the players and the coach and they were like “we have to get our legs going”. Like there was very little things they mentioned to change. They mentioned they had to have better breakouts once. Is it just me or does it seem like bednar just doesn’t really know how to adjust during a series?

It's certainly been the knock on Bednar that he cannot really adjust after a team figures out a way to limit their speed and attack. It's shown up in the 2nd round twice in a row vs Dallas and then Vegas. I am interested to see how the game plays out tonight and see what, if any, adjustments are made by their staff and players.

I don't think you will ever get anything of substance from player interviews, especially in the playoffs. They almost always give you the canned answers that mean nothing. The Athletic needs to do a better job of rewatching the game and coming up with adjustments they believe are needed rather than just lazily quoting Av players regurgitating the same canned answers that they mention after every loss, regular season or post.

JR had a good article in how the blues improves their transitions on the breakout as well as gap closures in the D zone and provided video examples. Hopefully Bednar still sucks at making adjustments

The level teams need to be champions is the one Tampa played against Toronto in Game 7. I have seen Colorado dominate play but I haven't seen that team sell out for every hard play, ship every puck out, make all the right crisp tight passes yet. If the Avs get to this level they will be tough to beat, but can they reach it is the question.
