Confirmed with Link: Blues and Saad agree to Mutual Contract Termination

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that Saad has been offered some sort of internal job with the team and is going to have his contract mutually terminated so that he can segue into that.
No chance. He’s still young enough that he can still play hockey.

I understand not wanting Miller but we should absolutely be inquiring about Pettersson. I feel like it’s highly unlikely that Pettersson is an actual locker room cancer that would cause any issues here. I think it’s Miller and Miller only that he has a problem with, and that’s why without being in the locker room I’d place the blame more on Miller in this rift. His grating personality is well known.

If we could get Petey for a deal around Kyrou and a throw in as Brian is talking about, I’m absolutely pulling the trigger on that. Thomas and Petey as our 1-2 down the middle could transform this team for several years. There are hardly any options out there that would be an upgrade on that anytime soon.
Abso-f***ing-lutely no on Petterson. Miller has outproduced him every year except for 1 since he joined VAN. Pettersons contract is going to be a f***ing cruise liner anchor. This isn't to say I want Miller either, he's a bit old for this team, but if you forced me to pick between the two it sure wouldn't be EP

Miller's also got the better linemates and deployment every year. EP gets defensive situations against the other team's best players while having Debrusk this year and Mikheyev last year as his most common linemate. Miller gets offensive situations stapled to Boeser. Even if the players were clones of each other, Millers deployment and linemates would yield far better counting stats.

Good point

I doubt he's eager to work for the team that just strong armed him into terminating his contract but you never know.

I think that has almost no chance of happening. He will most likely sign with a contender in next few days.

I can't figure out how Saad is supposed to make a difference for a contender when he was a below average bottom 6 guy on our mediocre roster. I guess at league minimum a team might take a shot but I think everyone if expecting the old Brandon Saad

If he signs with a contender he might start trying, so that could make a difference.

He’d be experienced playoff depth, no term or negative developmental consequences if he sits for long stretches. He’s been on Cup winners. He’s the kind of depth price you eventually need when you expect a long playoff run.

Like Del Zotto was for us, although he wasn’t needed, he was good security.

Dude, that is like sooooooo guano.
Damn you, you made me hear Ace Ventura in my head lol.

Hey, Army's Magic Board does weird shit, ok? The things we think are batshit impossible tend to happen with him out of nowhere. As Pauly would say 'Satanic Black Magic... Sick Shit!', well if it works and gets us another Cup, I'm 'sick' with it!

I doubt we strong armed him into anything, he wants to play in the NHL and not just cash a pay check.
I honestly doubt there are many NHL players who don't try. You don't get to that level with that kind of attitude. He's just not that good anymore.

Buchnevich rings a bell

You couldn't trade a 7th round pick for Saad at 50% retention to VGK????

But yet he is still worth 1.5 mill a year?????

1.5 Prorated for the season, so hes not actually earning all that and not signed for next season either so much less risk

I know he is earning that at pro rated for rest of the year but to me I was thinking this way.

IF VGK said trade you 7th for 50% retain Saad. Then say Saad rebounds, you got him for either 2.25 mill AAV next or you could flip him next year for pick if he has good year. I see both sides, but it is just a game of money.
I'd rather have the full 4.5mil cap space than a late 7th

Personally I can see both sides. Picks are luck of a draw but the cap space is very nice.

Chances are, Krug's career is probably done, but I don't buy that he's ready to retire yet. He's a competitive guy and has every intention of coming back. Let's say he regains enough functionality and symptom relief to attempt a return: the Blues have already made it clear they don't want him back by trying to trade him in the past and reconstructing the blue line in his absence. It just surprised me that they didn't waive him earlier.
I hope he doesn't come back, not because I dislike him as a player, but because I like him as a person
