Well do you laugh at 50 pts in 60 gp? The Jets still are positive at 5v5 with him on the ice too. Yeah there's times he makes a blunder or misfires a prime scoring opportunity. If everyone laughed everytime that happened with a Jets fwd, we'd have a highly rated Netflix comedy special on our hands.

The OP was about replacing wheeler in the top 6. He hasn't been perfect however he imo is still the best option. Like I said, who are you replacing him with at top 6RW? Appelton, Saku M, Barron? I don't think so.
I would give Namestnikov a shot up there right now instead of Wheeler, at least give it a try. And Wheeler has no business on PP1 , he's too slow and has no shot.

I'm not generally pessimistic but there is nothing about this team that is fun to watch, no real sense that they'll come out of this without some major changes after this season - I'm also not that interested in watching the game to game doldrums of rebuilding either at this stage of my life. Just a disappointing finish of this year which started very promising.

I don't follow stats at all, but I agree that Wheeler passes too much and most of them go astray.

Plus he's too slow to keep up at times, especially when we're racing around in our own end like decapitated chickens.

And then there's the stupid/self-fish penalties he takes, often because he can't keep up.

And yet, Axel and his speed are sitting in the press box.

there was a lack of response because shit like that happens multiple times a game, the only reason it's being talked about now is because ehlers got mad and decided to fight someone for it that was above his weight class.. if crosschecks like that warranted a fight every time they happened then we would just be turning hockey into a 60 min boxing match

It's kinda funny because had ehlers not decided to fight I guarantee nobody would have even mentioned this, I also hope to see the same people mad that nobody stood for ehlers also post about every crosscheck on our player that doesn't lead to a fight
You are right about the hit but what i thought should happen after that fight is that it would have sparked the guys to see Ehlers stand up for himself but unfortunately it didn't.

Their response tho to the fight was non existent. Ehlers obviously frustrated with the 2 handed cross check to the non padded as much gut area, probably wasn't the first one he took from schenn either, just first one we all noticed. Ehlers says f*** it and fights the much bigger better fighter in schenn, gets in a shot or 2 but seemingly gets rag dolled... ehlers probably doing it to hopefully spark some life in to the team.... there was none. Thats embarrassing and pathetic.

Do something Anything, some response. But just nothing. These guys are proving that there are problems in the room and those problems been there a while. Paul Stastny at last years year end PC... watch it again. Then ask yourself, who or which guy's he's obviously talking about

It's been festering, the problem in the room, it's still there. It needs to be removed... if it's 55 26 81 27 80 17 44 (its not josh) , 4, 88,5, 37 whoever, get them the f*** out the room asap. That is the solution.

I'm looking at the former captain tho and right hand man first.
Interesting point about removing the problems from the locker room. It makes me think about the Wild choosing $12-14 million in dead cap space for 3 years (and $6 million last year) rather than having Parise and Suter in their locker room. It led to them losing a fantastic young player in Kevin Fiala and yet... they are thriving.

The Jets have superior forwards and goaltending (though a lesser d corps), but as a team have been decisively out-performed by the Wild for 2 straight years. We will see if the Jets can turn it around this year. If they don't it will be harder to excuse Chevy's failure to address the perceived locker room issues, especially when we can point to comparable markets that have addressed similar issues and thrived.

Lets not forget when Dillon got here from Washington and was practicing hard and hitting guys for real, 26 told him that's not how they do it here, that's how ovi and the caps do it tho but not Wheeler and the Jets right. It's painfully obvious
Forget what? I've never heard this before.

It may be painfully obvious to you, but it's complete bullshit to me.

Yeah, I always wondered what she looked like in a bikini. Surprised to see that she's blonde after I'm pretty sure she said she was a blackhead.

Ya, I'm not really buying this, no offence meant. People here talking about this "divided room" stuff is just bunk IMO, and propagated on these boards when absolutely no one here knows what's going on in that room.

In November it was all sunshine and roses. We were winning and the narrative was that the room was solid and everyone's on the same page. Here we are in March, we're losing, and now the room is a mess.

Gotta agree with you.

Make Wheeler the healthy scratch and get AJF on the ice.

Let his man-mane floooowww!

people just throw out the same theories, room is toxic, given up on the coach and they don't try.. other then last night the effort has been there but scoring hasn't been, had we been able to capitalize on our play nobody would be talking about any of this

Jets difference makers are not doing fa. It all starts and stops with those guys.

I remember that practice with Wheeler and Dillion too, it was all over the msm.

The word is brunette, not a blackhead.

A blackhead is completely different.

And if you saw me in a bikini you'd be disappointed.
Yeah, brunette. That's what I meant to say, brunette.

As for being disappointed or not, that's up to your many HF colleagues to decide for ourselves. Perhaps a tasteful picture or two could settle the question? After all, if you're applying for a job as a model this week, you can't be too disappointing.

Wheeler gets a lot of criticism but he’s a top notch playmaker with limited skill team mates in the bottom 6 so our options to pair him are extremely limited.
It is what it is.
Wheeler is NOT a top notch playmaker.....I don't know what you see on the ice...... he may be one of our worst playmakers in the top six. he belongs on the third line NOW!

Fair enough -- but why have they been so unable to capitalize on their chances in those games where the effort was there?

How have they gone to being a top 6-8 team in the league to being the 6th worst by point % since January?

Why don't other teams implode as the Jets have, year after year? How can teams with equivalent or lesser talent seemingly make the most of it, while the Jets underperform game after game, season after season?

I agree that winning seems to solve problems -- but in the Jets' case, winning on the back of lights-out play by Helle and JMo winning seemed to have papered problems over just as it has in the past.

Maybe the locker room is great, the players adore each other, coaching is solid and everyone's playing to the limits of their ability and effort, every shift or every game.

But then what explains this tailspin?

3rd on assists on this team
50 points in 62 games
Only 6 points behind PLD
He’s not what he used to be however I would not say he’s useless

You should take that comment from the orifice it came from and return it there. What!!.......you were on the ice when you heard him say that. With your proclivity for making things up and presenting them as factual, Team Trump is the place for you!....or maybe the circus.

You really think Ehlers fought Schenn over that crosscheck? He did it to try and ignite a bit of give a shit in his team. Unfortunately none of them responded. That’s why I’d feel let down if I were Ehlers. It’s not about someone running to his rescue, it’s about them all climbing on board.
Instead they let a team tanking for a high draft pick walk all over them like a used piñata. Not sure how you can see it any other way.
