Yea I got the vibe that they were basically saying, ya he's staying in Sweden for one more season, and if things go well, we're going to bring him straight to the NHL. It also lines up pretty well with our roster construction, Leddy and Fowler's deals are expiring after next year.
Lindstein staying in Sweden for one more season = yes.

Jiricek in juniors.

1. He's under contract for the Blues. We paid and he accepted his signing bonus. Its not all his decision
2. Ahl is the 2nd or 3rd best league in the world. Only the KHL has a claim to be better. Not SEL or Liiga.
3. Lindstein is not making too much more in SHL than he would in the AHL given he is a young kid, and it is a much lower paying league than the NHL. Especially when you factor in the aforementioned signing bonus we already paid him. Plus he has the option for call ups in the NHL which he does not in SHL. Those call ups are worth a lot. Thousands of dollars a day. A couple weeks in the NHL would more than make up the difference.
Agree with the crux of what you’re saying here - he’s under contract so the Blues have the final say on where he plays. And also agree he’d likely make about the same amount either way. He’ll get his $95k signing bonus from the Blues on July 1st no matter where he plays next season.

But I think you’re underestimating the SHL a bit. The KHL isn’t quite as good as it used to be as fewer non-Russians are playing in it since the war started. And the quality of the SHL has improved. I’d say the top couple KHL teams would still be better but as a whole, the SHL is better than the KHL these days. The depth in the SHL is much better. A few haves and many have-nots in the KHL. The SHL is close to being on par with the AHL IMO. But with the AHL obviously better for NHL development as they play on the 200x85 surface. Then the KHL not far behind. Then the Swiss A league and the Finnish Liiga. Then a pretty big gap down to the Czech and German leagues.

I stand by my comment that most Swedes and Finns would rather stay in their home leagues until they are close to ready for the NHL rather than toiling a few years in the AHL. For obvious reasons. If he's close to NHL ready, it's a different story.

The money is down the list of priorities, it's more an issue of comfort and already having started their career there. Most khl guys would be the same. Sure the Blues can order him to do what they want but I'm pretty sure Army and Steen will do what's best for the team and player.

i see a Gunnar too. I just don't see the offensive side developing enough. Once he makes the club, He'll be steady on the back end, but unnoticeable most games.
I thought Lindstein looked good in these games. Today’s game was his most inconsistent, but the skating, IQ, and poise are there. On the PP he and Stenberg looked great. If he continues to develop and get stronger his floor is a solid top 4 dman. As a Blues fan I’m happy with how good all of our prospects have looked.

Haha

I know it will be an unpopular opinion but Lindstein will be lucky to be a Gunnarsson
Gunnar at his peak was a very good mid pair guy. Not amazing but did well offensively and defensively. Was a great complement to anyone he played with. Calling someone who isn’t an elite prospect a potential Gunnarson is probably a complement. I do think expectations need to be tempered some.

Are you telling me the parade is off and I should cancel my trip to St Louis for June 2026?

Probably right, but some optimism while the club is going 2 steps forward and then 3 steps back is nice to have.

It certainly beats some of the other discussions overflowing with doom and gloom, taking the opportunity to discuss the various takes from a widely available games many of us watched - which isn't something we get many of with Stenburg or Lidstein.

Like many others, I saw some good and some bad today. Lidstein seemed calm and poised, efficiently doing his job during chunks of the game. Once the Finns started gaining momentum and took the lead, Lidstein in particular seemed a little panicky - making plays I don't recall seeing last year in Sweden's games, nor in my more limited other viewings this year.

If I had to make a guess, having worse talent up front overall, or being a veteran who was looked at to carry heavier defensive lifting weighed on him and the pressure caused Lidstein to stumble a bit, before settling back down. Then he got shaky again. He's 19, that's not ideal in the semis - but it's something I hope he aclimates to, because that's only going to get worse after his first few seasons here when the coaching staff starts to trust him and give him more responsibility against far more talented opposition.

Gunnarsson couldn't comfortably handle top pairing minutes at the NHL level

Lindstein looks like he smoothly will, based on multiple viewings and trajectory

Sure if you watch him one game you could throw out a name like Gunnarsson, I could see that

also that Jaskin/Stancl comparison is taking it off the Czech thread in WJC forum from one guy making that comparison and then it being inserted here fyi. Stancl is a better skater than Jaskin for sure

Nah more like Jaskin

Actually, the guy I'd compare him to is Faksa.
He's far too good of a skater to compare to Jaskin.
Not sure he has enough offense to really justify a top 6/9 berth, but he's big, physical, has a very solid defensive base and can chip in a few points here and there(how much is up for debate). Might pan out as a 3rd liner but may be limited to a strictly checking role in the NHL.
