Don’t forget Chinakhov. That’s a lot of ovs
They chose Lindstrom over Demidov, so that's one less.

I think they are legit. 2 big fellows that crash the net. Voronkov has soft hands and is a real threat in the slot. He's been injured at the beginning of the season and it took him so time to get at ease. But since December, he's been scoring at a frightening pace. Marchenko is more well rounded for now. I wasn't expecting any of the 2 to be this dominant just yet but kudos to them.

It’s time to talk about Voronkov and Marchenko. These guys are red hot. Marchenko notched his 44th point tonight on Voronkov’s 16th goal of the season

I don’t watch a lot of Columbus games but these two would appear to be cracked. Any bluejackets fans care to chime in? Sorry for the jinx thread in advance
Well Voronkov had 2 goals and Marchenko had 2 assists along with the shootout winner and Monahan left the game :23 seconds into the 3rd period. So a little bit of a jinx.

Marchy has a gotten better every year but is a sniper along with great skill but became more of a 200ft player this year.

Voronokov was supposed to be a 3rd-4th line center with snarl. Nobody expected the hands, passing and hockey sense from a guy that big.

All the younger guys in C-bus have really benefitted from the coaching change and the addition of Monahan as a center/mentor. The russians have been progressing steadily rounding out pieces of their games but this year has been a big jump due to the new system and some additional focus on conditioning (particularly Voronkov who slimmed down and appears much faster). Marchenko's shot is as lethal as ever but he seems to have improved his vision this year has added some playmaking rather than pure sniping which ultimately has made him more dangerous when he does choose to shoot.

They have a great group of Russians but Marchenko in particular stood out from the first time I saw him play. Absolutely wicked shot.

Here's NHL scoring leaders since mid-December.

Marchenko tied for 2nd and Voronkov tied for 4th.

To be clear, that's just a few weeks and who knows where it goes from here. But the point is that they're good players and very hard to stop.

Voronkov is an immovable object with great hands around the net and surprising smarts with the puck.

Marchenko is also powerful and he can really move out there, very agile for a big man and has a full arsenal of puck skills.

They're constantly speaking Russian with each other, because Voronkov still doesn't speak English, and because, so they say, they can fool opponents on the ice.

Jarmo really did have a nice Russian pipeline thing going. Gotta give him or whoever their Russian scout is credit.

Voronkov came out of no where. Was he ever expected to be a goal scorer at the nhl level? I don’t think he ever produced at this level at any high level hockey he has played. What a great story. I love when players develop out of no where. He was playing in the khl at a pretty early age though. So maybe there was something there. The khl is no joke.

@VT or @ViD or someone who actually watched him play pre-NHL was telling everyone Voronkov was going to be great, but not sure if anyone believed them though :) I think the amount of skill and vision has has taken most people by surprise.

Marchenko at this point is no surprise, it was clear right when he entered the NHL he was going to be "good" and the remaining question was just what exactly does "good" mean :)

Is their an NHL team that's particularly popular with Russians?

The Red Wings have Sweden. The Devils are courting Switzerland. Idk if Ottawa has made any ground in Germany. Pretty sure that Finns just follow their best players around.

Would be cool if Columbus could establish themselves as Russia's team--although I don't believe that Washington was ever able to do that, and they were in a great position to do so for the first 15 years of the cap era. I'd imagine competition with the KHL makes it tougher to establish consistent fanbases. Idk, now I'm just rambling.

We have always had quite a few Russian fans (or at least since I started following the team seriously in the early 2010s). Don't forget the the franchise's two biggest stars prior to the current era were both Russian as well: Panarin and Bobrovsky. It's too bad we're not Cleveland, where there's a substantial Russian population.
