I can't believe I am saying this, but I wish Loup was around and healthy just so the Jays had a different left handed option that isn't Cecil right now.

Anyone who could go up against lefties would be huge right now.

Floyd has actually been well above average vs lefties and Osuna has no problem with them either, but the rest of the pen is a mess.

They're batting .375 off Cecil, .429 off Chavez, .429 off Storen and .500 off Venditte.

Just from watching the games I knew all these guys have been failing miserably. Chavez seems to give up a home run everytime he enters the game. I hadn't bothered looking at the numbers though. Those are horrifically bad considering they're a month into the season now. It's starting to get past the "it's still early" time. Not sure what they're going to do to fix it.

I know the Jays still seem to be middling about right now, but they are getting solid starting pitching from Stroman, Estrada and Happ, that's huge, and should turn into good things as the season progresses.

The offense really can't be much worse than it was in April.

However, let's get real....the starting pitching can't be any better. Estrada, Happ and Sanchez all outpitched their underlying stats.

Unless this team acquires a #2 starter, no playoffs this season.

The bullpen is the problem, not the starting pitching, save for batting practice Dickey.

You arent going to win much depending on dogs like Storen and Cecil.

Jim Abbott was born without a right hand and was a legit starting pitcher, he even knocked in a few runs in his only season in the NL.

Abbott was indeed a legit starting pitcher.

Getting a hit one-handed in the bigs is pretty amazing.

The series against the Rangers should be good to watch.

I'll be surprised if Bautista doesn't get hit. Gibbons is probably telling the team to put on a token response to it, but not to go too far.

The bat flip was a bit much for anyone on the opposing team.

They have not been good yet this year but these 2 have legit track records pitching in high leverage situations. If the offence could muster a few more runs our record is much different. No wins when the opponent scores more than 3 runs, not good

Finally a strong outing by Dickey ... and still the Jays lose. Freakin' offence.

Especially painful to take in a year that the Yankees are quite crap.

Mazara is a legit RFer for Texas, hopefully Alford is as good

That is putting a lot of pressure on Alford.

Baseball Prospectus had Mazara #5 this pre-season. Alford was 44th.

Mazara is a legit can't miss prospect with immense upside. Rangers are stacked with solid young prospects, even after trading 4-5 solid pieces for Hamels last year.

Jays Offense:

Runs scored: 1st in 2015, 13th in 2016

Batting average: 2nd in 2015, 27th in 2016
Slugging: 1st in 2015, 17th in 2016
OPS: 1st in 2015, 16th in 2016
Least Strikeouts: 7th in 2015, 28th in 2016
Walks drawn: 1st in 2015, 4th in 2016

The offense really cannot get worse than this. Regression will come, in a good way.

The most damning stat of the Jays offense:

Career wOBA vs left handed pitching
Tulowitzki .404
Martin .354

2016 wOBA vs left handed pitching
Tulowitzki and Martin .104

Looking more and more like Tulo was a product of Coors Field. The playoff run was nice last year but we could sure use Miguel Castro in the pen this year....not to mention future ace Jeff Hoffman.

Agreed. Thankfully the AL East is not very strong this year. Arguably the weakest it has been in the past decade.

If the Jays can regress to top 10 in a lot of those offensive categories they can realistically contend in this division. Although that what involve regressing way past their recent historical mean offensive output.

I know who Jim Abbot is. I remember his no hitter. I just don't understand the comparison to Vindette who clearly has two hands.

A lot of players had career years and bounce back seasons this year was a possibility. I have been concerned about the offense since the first week of the season and I still am. I agree it has to get better at some point but the way that bullpen looks, it might not matter. They don't look capable of holding a lead irregardless of how many runs the Jays score.

There was a lot of talk about the Jays trading Tulowitzki in the off season. I wonder how close they got.

Just more or is any one else worried Tulo will never be a good hitter again? He seems like he has no power left, yesterday he took a strike right down the middle on a fastball. Seems like he has to guess and wait for the perfect pitch or he can't hit.

Just worry, he is a great defensive SS but we need more for what he is getting paid.

Ive seen Mazara as low as 20 and alford in some top 30s

The power is still clearly there, he has 5 HRs only a handful of SS can say that, hes in a funk but he can only improve from here
