The Jays are calling up 2024 1st rounder, Trey Yesavage and he's going to start tomorrow against Tampa.

Yesavage started the season in Low-A Dunedin and has since pitched for High-A Vancouver, Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo.
He's starting?!

That's very unexpected. I thought he was working out of the pen in triple A, and the Jays already have a ton of starters.

Yeah that surprised me too, but he may just go 3 innings or so, then probably Lauer for 2-3 since he only threw 22 pitches yesterday.

It's also a way to essentially create an off-day for the 5-man rotation, since Monday is game 7 of 13 in 13.... and if I'm correct in my counting, this also sets up Bieber or Gausman for game 1 if we don't get a bye.

Edit: Schneider said starting like he's used to will help ease the transition.

Vladdy might be the nicest guy in baseball. He's always doing things like checking on the catcher there, or making sure a first MLB hit ball for an opponent gets to them, applauding a diving catch by a ball girl... etc. Every game it seems to be something different... plus all the things he does for fans

Kinda feel bad for the O's piching, making his MLB debut and being left out there despite getting hammered.

Good to see the Jays beat up on the Orioles, I'm still upset at that last series where they dropped 3/4 to them back and got destroyed in most of those games. Hopefully they can abuse the Rays this week as well, I won't be able to watch any of the games so sending good vibes.

You're gonna miss the Yesavage MLB debut? That blows

Looks like he's moving up fast. Know anything about his pitching?

Strikes out a ton of guys, has a really odd arm angle because it's so high (it's measured higher than any MLB pitcher currently). He has 3 plus pitches, a fastball, slider/curve and splitter... his fastball is low-mid 90s with a ton of both vertical and horizontal movement, I think I heard his best pitch is is splitter which is about 10 mph slower than is fastball... his splitter/curve gets called a slider by statcast, but scouts say it is more of a curve... which means it's probably more of a slurve with good run and break, I recall hearing it has similar movement to is splitter but is about 5mph faster

He has struggled with command his first game or 2 at every level so far though. He had 6 walks in his Low-A debut. 3 in his High-A debut (and 10 in his first 3 games), 4 in his Double-A debut, 3 in his second game there and then 4 in his Triple-A debut.... but those 21 walks are also more than half his walks on teh season though. It might be a bit of an odd anomaly. But overall so far he 160 strike outs in 98 innings and his WHIP (walk +hits per inning pitched is under 1, which is phenomenal.

The Jays have also really managed his innings this year, so he's only pitched a few more than his did in college last year. They feel they have managed his innings enough where they don't have an innings limit on him in the majors.

here is an article I found that was released today about what to expect, I haven't actually read it yet.

Yesavage had a shaky but not bad 1st inning, a couple hits, and a walk, but got his first K and got out of the inning with just 1 run scoring.

Definitely settled down in the 2nd and to start the 3rd
Yep. I should have dug deeper into his early starts, Dan mentioned it was often the first inning where he had his issues in those starts. It's good that he was open about those struggles too, shows self awareness. Also I think having a MLB level catcher will help him because all Heineman has to do to calm him down is some magic tricks

Wasnt worried unless he got absolutely dumped on in the 1st. Nerves, excitement, top end hitters, etc, always going to be a bit of a learning curve.

5 strike outs through 3, not bad. Up to 50 pitches though.
Going throgh the game stats for his last 5 appearances, e threw 83 pitches twice... so I think that will be about where they let him get if he keeps on track
