Snip of Laine's earlier interview
“I feel like we were just doing the same thing year after year. I was tired of losing and just giving up when it’s December to start focusing on next year. I’m not going to do that. That’s frustrating as a player when you’re trying to win and some people are, you know, not like that.
“They’re a little too satisfied and too comfortable where they’re at. It wasn’t really a fit for me anymore. But here (in Montreal), it doesn’t matter if we’re winning or losing, we’re always trying our best. That’s what I felt about it (in Columbus).”

Zach Werenski after tonight's game
“It’s unfortunate … For him to bash us like that, I think it’s just unacceptable.”“We were nothing but good teammates to him. For him to come in and say that is bullshit. Definitely not happy about it and none of us in this room are happy about it. It speaks more about him than it does us.”“What’s he thinking saying that? It’s just incredible.”

Nothing against Laine, but... er, he strikes me as juvenile and emotionally immature. He is the kind of personality I would keep away from my team.

I think he’s fine in Montreal- they’re trying to build something, he helps, and if he’s a problem you can jettison him later- but overall, agreed.

Seems like he’s talking just to talk, trying to hype MTL but doing it in the most backwards way possible. And Laine, bro- your effort was ass for huge stretches, who are you to cast that claim?

An unnecessary comment from him.

I think he’s just trying to find some more extra motivation but he could’ve found it in other ways without those comments.

It really feels like he's trying to rewrite history a bit. It reads like he is saying that he wasnt part of the problem; his team (and teammates) brought him down.

It comes across as overly defensive. Really, he was part of the problem

I much prefer the Eichel kind of comment where he said that the team just wasn't gelling with him there and both sides would benefit from the change.

Either way it's all self serving BS but you can tell from Werenski's comments that it is a mean way to go about it.

Yup. Very much a 'pot calling the kettle black' situation.

Laine is an excellent player and an asset to any team, but I certainly wouldn't consider him one of those hard-nosed, will-put-it-all-on-the-line kinda guys.

And, as they say, 'be the change you want to see'. Laine was a top talent in Columbus; he could've been a leader and set an example. He didn't; he missed nearly as many games as he played and then asked to leave. And to throw his former teammates under the bus once he's out? It's a gutless move for a guy complaining about a team's culture.

Reminder that when Laine first arrived in Columbus, he talked about how excited he was to play there, how overblown the supposed organizational issues were, and how he could never see himself playing anywhere else. I believe he also trashed Winnipeg in a similar manner at that time.

And then it took him less than a month after that trade to get into a yelling match with his coach in Columbus.

To be fair...how many of those players were even playing with Laine, that are on the team now. Outside of Werenski, who was constantly injured, that is.
Chinakhov, Danforth, Fantilli, Jenner, K Johnson, Kuraly, Marchenko, Olivier, Sillinger, Voronkov, Christiansen, Gudbranson, Provorov, Severson, Werenski, Tarasov, and Merzlikins.

And, lets call out the obvious. This team is playing for #13 this season. If they took that as a slight against him, I dont blame them for beating Laine up a bit.

I mean, he's a good player under the right circumstances and seems to have a shelf life. Let's not pretend he's more than he is.
