Blisters. Your info needed! (pic inside)

Skates can break in and get bigger, but they can't break in and get smaller. Unfortunately, blisters are caused by rubbing, which is a symptom of a skate that's either too big or poorly fitted. If you bought them at a good shop, see if they will exchange them for a smaller size or different model, because they did not fit you properly. Otherwise, your next option is larger foot beds or padding to try and take up that room, which may or may not cause other problems.

I'm using some old reebok hockey socks, i didn't look to see what material it was made with.

exact same place?! did you think that the skate was a tad too big? With the vapor socks, do you still notice some movement in that spot?

i can crank down on the laces, and it helps with movement, but I'm pretty sure that will cut off blood circulation.

I may need to invest in better socks!

Sorry it took me so long to respond, but yes the exact same spot. Funny thing is this weekend I played for 2 1/2 hours straight and almost got a blister in the same spot again, but lucky for me it was just red and I did not get an actual blister.

The material the sock is made of almost seems kind of slick on the outside and it fits very close to the skin on the inside. What I believe this does is let the whole foot move around in the boot just a little bit, but also keeps the sock from moving around on your foot. I am not sure that it makes sense when I type it out but it makes sense in my head.

Breaking in your skate is going to help the most, but good hockey socks help as well and IMO worth the cash.

Update: Went and got them baked again earlier this week, this time I cranked down on the laces when the boot was hot and got a much better curl on the eyelets.

Skated last night hard during a rat skate and they felt MUCH better. I didn't even tape up the blister prone spots on my feet.

Toward the end of the skate though, I started feeling a slight hot spot, but the skate was over before it affected my skating.

I'll try different socks, hopefully this will be a non issue soon.

I had the same problem with my new skates and it was b/c I was not wearing ther right socks. I tried just doing smartwool socks that I had laying around and I got blisters in the exact same place. Then I invested in some Bauer Vapor socks and I never got another blister. They are a little pricey, but I play 2-3 times per week and they are not showing any signs of wear in the 5 months I have had them.

Yeah the skate socks definitely work, buy a few pairs and your blisters should get better.

If you are getting blisters and tippy toeing makes that area lift, the skates are not your size or proper fit. All skates fit different and if you switched brands or sizes, that may be the case. Baking wont do much because baking doesn't fill empty space. Insoles may help but thicker socks wont because your foot will slide within the sock affecting performance.
