Solid B adult player, just got new skates, been sized by the shop and are getting blisters on the same spot on each foot.

Doesn't seem like there is much padding on the inside of the boot to "break in" at this spot.

Only been skating for 3 sessions with new skates, but I don't remember it being this bad before..

I sorta have a low arch, maybe even flat footed. Has anyone had the same problem??

i have never gotten blister's before so i can speak from personal experiance but arnt blister's generally caused due to "sliding"?....im sure you have been playing for a while so has this ever happened before? and did you get them baked?

its usually (from what i have seen) due to the skates not being fully broken in yet but that doesnt help you in the mean time...i guess try another or thicker pair of socks...its kind of a weird place to be getting blisters to

I've gotten em as well, the skates weren't yet broken in and were likely a half size too big. Do you think maybe yours are too large? Or maybe they aren't the right skates for your type of foot?

I got them baked, but I do think they are a half size too large. I can feel my feet lift up at the spot of the blister which is causing the rubbing.

Although this does work, I really don't feel like duct taping my feet before I skate!

were you having similar blisters? if so, how did you remedy it?

Moleskin, then I think I sold them and got the right size. It was a good 4 or 5 years ago, memory's not entirely fresh on what skates caused it.

Did you put the skates in the oven and bake them?

The shop I got them from baked them in the oven, and then I put them on, laced them up. They didn't have the air bladder machine though.

When I stand on the skates and I do the motion of "tippy toeing", I can feel the inside of my feet move ever so slightly causing those blisters.

You guys think that baking them again, and really cranking down on the laces would help?

I had the same problem with my new skates and it was b/c I was not wearing ther right socks. I tried just doing smartwool socks that I had laying around and I got blisters in the exact same place. Then I invested in some Bauer Vapor socks and I never got another blister. They are a little pricey, but I play 2-3 times per week and they are not showing any signs of wear in the 5 months I have had them.

I had/have the same thing with my easton se16 skates but only on my left foot. I found that the width was a little too small, it would tear my skin open while skating aggressively. I have since got the skate punched out and it has helped to the point that it is basically eliminated, I will only get it if I play games back to back and skate hard. Go somewhere with a punch, have them bake the skates then punch the spots where the blisters are and it should help.

I'm using some old reebok hockey socks, i didn't look to see what material it was made with.

exact same place?! did you think that the skate was a tad too big? With the vapor socks, do you still notice some movement in that spot?

i can crank down on the laces, and it helps with movement, but I'm pretty sure that will cut off blood circulation.

I may need to invest in better socks!

IMO, start with the basic/cheapest solution to see if it works...if you feel your feet "lifting" thats not a good thing.....i would try with new insoles and i would go dr. schols (because they are truely worth it no matter how good or bad your skates fit) as well as different socks...could be that they are to wide and you may have to trade them in but i would try everything else before that...also those gel pad things look like they might just do the trick....good luck, im sure its frustrating especially when you just want to play some hockey

I had a very similar problem with my Mission skates when I played roller in HS. That spot on the inside of my foot would rub where the arch support was in the footbed. My feet are a little flat and I think that was part of the problem. That same arch support area of the boot would push the inside of my foot up a liitle and that would give me shin splints. Footbeds helped. Over the years I've tried a few different brands: Superfeet, InStep, etc.

Finally, I spent $ on some custom footbeds from Sidas. I use em in my Bauer skates and they are nice. I'm not saying this is the solution for you, but getting your skates dialed in should be your first priority. Easily the most important piece of equipment.

Would a bit of talcum powder help?

I scoffed at this, but apparently it works...

duoderm... but I have no idea where you'd find it (outside of a hospital).

Any form of "second skin" would work. And Talcum powder will too.

If you use a form of second skin (use first on dry skin), then talcum powder, you should be good to go! (ps, the blister's aren't too bad).

Thanks for all the replies!

I've skated with duct tape over the problematic areas on my feet, and it works great, I just don't want to put duct tape on my feet before every skate.

Since there's some movement, will the boot still break in after a while?

On both feet where the blisters are, there is a bump on my feet (not bone).

I'm wondering if it needs to be punched out in that spot on the boot? Will that cause more room in the boot and cause my feet to move around more?

Maybe I should just quit whining and skate more to see if it'll break in over time.

When I switched from CCM to Bauer skates about 5 years ago I had real bad blisters in that exact same spot (back of the arch) for some time. I tried a bunch of remedies (duct tape, cloth tape, double layer anti-blister socks) but nothing worked 100%. I didn't try new footbeds, so that might be something to consider.

Eventually that area calloused over and now I have no issues. I mean, now I have slightly noticeable callouses on that location on my feet, but I have no pain or blistering issues whatsoever.

Get a product called moleskin. you can get it at walmart, cvs, or any pharmacy. I used to get blisters really bad when I was younger and I would use this and wala no more blisters

Thanks everyone,

I need to rack up a couple more hours before I jump to conclusions. I may have to stick to the cheapest route, duct tape, for now. We'll see how it gets after a couple skates.

I'm hoping things will improve naturally!
