Blake is out

I genuinely believe that's NOT what he was trying to do.

I suppose we'll never know for sure but I think his position was that the team captain shouldn't be a distraction and that his contract negotiation was a distraction.

It was portrayed as a defiant act of self interest when with the benefit of hindsight I believe it was a misunderstood act of selflessness.

I also think the union was pressuring him and since his contract would have an impact on a non-cap world and other players coming up behind him I can see him feeling like he had an obligation to the rest of the league.
On the last point, I distinctly remember Dean Lombardi once making this point in defense of Blake. It made sense to me. Wether that was 100% of the pie or some slice of it (and if so, how big/small)... we can only guess.

He quit on the team and then took almost the same contract with the AV’s ….hope he gets sand fleas

Once again Beckerman is failing Kings fans. How can he listen to Luc’s presser and believe this is the guy to get this team over the hump. If he actually thinks this team is a couple moves away from a cup contender, his hockey knowledge is a joke.

He’s wasted more money than what should be acceptable. If Luc’s mention of the books was accurate, WTF is ownership doing? This is the second, at worst fourth, most valuable franchise in the league. But the books aren’t good?

I guess all those empty home seats I saw on the broadcast was reality. And that’s in the face of the greatest regular season that any fan alive today ever witnessed. LA is a town that expects actual champions, not teams that were right there in July.

Tells me how much they care that said CEO can't even show up to the president's press conference post-season and GM release.

Lombardi's problem was always his loyalty to a group of players that were really moving past their prime and his infatuation with a style of hockey that was becoming obsolete. He could not adapt as the worm was turning.

Ironically, Dean coming back now would actually be perfect, his philosophy on hard, gritty hockey is coming back in vogue with a league that has become inundated with tiny, soft, finesse players, and his culture changes would be once again more than welcome.

But Luc would never allow it...

Gonna have to correct you on this one, because that didn't happen.

Kings threatened Blake with a trade if he didn't re-sign for $7.5M per year.

Blake's agent, Ron Salcer, was asking for Chris Pronger money worth $9.6M per year.

Final Kings offer was for $8M per year at five years, $40M.

After winning the Cup, the Avs re-signed Blake for exactly what he was looking for, a five year, $48 million contract at $9.6M per year.

I thought I read somewhere he wanted a soccer match out there, which is f***ing stupid. LA’s heavy smashmouth playstyle was entertaining as hell.

Yeah, my eyebrow went up at that line, too. I'm hopeful it was a reflexive attempt (emphasis on that word) at a jovial deflection to a somewhat tough question -- if it's an allusion to reality, the short/intermediate term outlook for this team really is bleak...

Well, time for a new avatar, I guess. Here is my soon to be old one in case anyone wants to save it.

A few new ideas for you (because I am a motherf***ing team player) I think the first is the clear winner but options are a must

If these are our options right now Berg vs Holland then might as well do a lottery and throw all our names in there too.

I'd totally quit my job to be GM. I'd bring back the purple and gold too.

Side note: The above photo makes me think Robitaille sort of looks like he could be Malfoy's cousin from Harry Potter. If he had Lou Lamoriello's personality, I would say he was Malfoy.

To that bolded point, if he makes two trades and each trade involves 6 of our players, then technically it's a couple moves.

Trust me, you'll be hard pressed to find someone with more rational and irrational dislike for Blake than me (I've been a fan since 94-95, so I've seen almost his whole arch with the team), but I like to play devil's advocate when appropriate to keep my biases in check.

Are you sure about the last point? From memory (which could be faulty), I thought the deal he eventually signed was 8.5 or something like that -- less than what he was asking for originally but a little bit bigger than the Kings' final offer of 8 million. I tried google but couldn't find a definite article about it.

It turned out to be a $9M per year deal with the Avs.

Itll be like the Green Bay Packers but instead of ownership it'll be GM shares

Everyone vote
