Askarov on Blackwood Trade

Loved this, figured you'd enjoy hearing how positive this dude was for a guy who is working towards his job. Would have loved to keep Blackwood, but I hope to see him win a cup or two. I still say, when it's all said it done it could have included a 1st and you'll be content with it.
Askarov is the next franchise goaltender. You guys are lucky to have him.

One thing I have to say...

It has been almost two weeks since the trade happened. Day or two later, Georgiev got his Sharks gear. Meanwhile, Blackwood is still rocking his old mask with some Avs stickers on it, and his old teal Sharks gear with some burgundy tape. Not even a new stick.

f***ing embarrassing, fits the bill with Trenin being handed over Zadorov's old pants.

I hadn't heard that about the pants. Is that true?

Zadorov was traded in October of 2020. Trenin was traded in March of 2024. They kept his pants for almost 4 years?

Was that what they were passing around before the Big Hat? The Big Pants?

For all you know that's his choice though. Some goalies are very particular with their shit.

The more we wait to re-up him the higher the AAV.

CMac probably wants to sign Rants first to know how many pennies he has left before signing other players though.

Gotta take that approach though. Gotta make sure you know what you're getting in goal, before committing multiple years, and perhaps the rest of their Cup window.

Plenty of reason to think he could be the right fit for this team. Especially his high danger saves, which the team has trouble with.

He's had 3 good games, but so did Annunen. Risking a slightly higher AAV is better than risking another goalie problem that you have to fix with no assets or cap space.

If he plays well I don't really give a shit. Doubt the players do either.
Yeah sure, he can win a hybrid of Red Wings and Wild gear for all I care if he wins the Stanley Cup for us.

It's still f***ing embarrassing. This is a multi billion dollar business. We are supposed to be one of the better teams in the league, by actually being somewhat a hockey market in the States, just won the SC, still in a competitive window... And what we've done here is absolute bushleague compared to a California team, who actually went out and bought new gear and made a proper decal for his mask.

Hmmm interesting and surprising. I honestly felt this would be another play it out and then re-evaluate after the season situation rather than actually committing to a goalie.

Then what happens if someone outbids them on the open market? Kind of like what happened with Grubauer.

Perhaps they now realize they need quality goaltending, time to nail it down?

I know the amount of money and effort we allocate to the goalies is a running joke around here but for the most part the guys we've acquired have all been capable, to some extent. If they're happy extending Blackwood then I think is one area of scouting the organisation seems to get right.

Or maybe Fourgiev has shellshocked me into thinking .900 is as much as I need to see. Either way, I think we'll be fine.
