The NHL does and always has gone by points percentage. Points are there for casual fans that can't handle percentages, but point percentage is always used by the NHL to rank teams for anything important when there is a disparity in games played. It's how they ranked teams in the covid season, for waivers every year, etc. If the season ended today, we would be considered 1st in the division.

It's how they ranked teams in the covid year because nobody played 82 games so there was no other option

As it stands winner of the Atlantic gets Shesterkin. I'd rather face Tampa or Boston.
Maybe as fans, we shouldn't be cheering for the team we want to face anymore.

This is an OCD Asperger's level argument. It really isn't that important.

It's how they've ranked teams every day of every season. Covid didn't change how they ranked teams. It just made the season end when there was a disparity in games.
Similarly, we currently have a disparity in GP with Florida, so we use point percentage.
The president trophy is won by the team with the most points

The President's trophy is won by the team with the best point percentage.

An annual award given to the team that finishes the regular season with the best overall record.

Not points or percentage by definition.
Maybe we can put this to bed now?

Why do people care about games starting 30 minutes later?

all it means is you get to watch the first period of Rangers VS Devils.

That should be a great game, if there were no leaf game tonight I'd be all over that.
That much later getting home.

I like to eat supper and listen to the pregame at 5:30 central and settle into the game at 6 knowing it’ll end by bedtime.
If I get interested in another game I may miss some of the Leafs game.

A better record would always be a better point percentage. A better record is not always more points. There is no debate here. Not only is points percentage more representative, it is established fact that it's what the NHL goes by.

If Minten keeps producing and playing the way he is, I wonder if it pushes Kampf out.

Why would it? If Minten keeps producing, it means we don't have to get a 3C.... and Kampf remains our 4C.

Some people can't stay late to watch TV for various reasons, at least for weeknight games. I'm one of those people.

1. The Toronto Maple Leafs aren’t talking about it, but they most definitely should be concerned about it.
Win the Atlantic Division. For once.

Kinda wild to think that the co-owners of the longest active NHL post-season streak (eight years and humming) have never taken the Atlantic (they did win the one-off North Division in 2021).
In the immortal words of their former head coach, now is the time.

The Florida Panthers have spilled some talent and become less bothered by regular-season standings.

The Boston Bruins, with their frightening minus-18 goal differential and their interim head coach, are suddenly more focused on just making the playoffs.

And today’s version of the Tampa Bay Lightning — whom the Leafs face Saturday — isn’t quite as fearsome as editions past.

Matthews anticipates a bit of rust in return to Maple Leafs' lineup

Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews jokes that he didn't forget how to play hockey over the last few weeks, but is very excited to get back into the lineup, and anticipates a bit of rust, but not nerves in his return.

Considering the state of Toronto’s goaltending and blue line and the fact that it has already weathered what should be their worst rash of injuries and coldest power-play spell (that sound you hear is Brad Treliving knocking wood), the Leafs should not only see a division title as doable.
They should be the favourite.

“I don’t think it's talked about. You go out there to play and win every single game,” John Tavares says. “The more games you win, the better chance you have of doing that and putting yourself in a great position, earning a playoff spot and earning home ice, higher seeding, all those sorts of things.

“Something like that can go a long way.”

The key to turning the Maple Leafs into a great playoff team could very well be sharpening them into an even more elite regular-season team.

So? Leafs are looking really good that's what happens when you have 2 goalies rolling
True Leafs D and G have been outstanding but Shesterkin can win a series on his own and these guys have been goalied in every playoff series except 1 by lesser goalies. Add that Woll could go down at any time and Stolarz has all but no playoff experience so I'd rather face Vasi (who we've owned the last few years) or Boston (who has Pasta, an old Marchand and a bunch of grinders).
