Anyway I think this thread can be closed. It’s a classic HFBoards proposal. OP makes a proposal with no idea what the other team needs, other team says no, OP turns into a rabid homer that cannot figure out why anyone could ever say no to their dogshit proposal.

SJ says no. Boil it down, it's a very late 1st (from Toronto), Chicago's early 2nd (34th pick), Korchinski and some spare change for 1st overall.

That's bad value for a potential Franchise Player. NHL drafts aren't the same as NFL drafts.

Both teams have a lot of depth in their pool, but Sharks could use a high-end defenseman and Hawks could use another high-end forward. If Sharks walk away with Schaefer, and Hawks walk away with Misa, I think both teams are happy.

The Sharks will wait to see how the lotto works out. If they end up 1st, they'll draft Schaefer and that will address getting another great young defenseman. They already have an extra 1st and 2nd. I don't think they need to move their top pick to get more picks. I think Korchinski is a respectable prospect but I don't see how he addresses the Sharks need in a way that makes the Sharks want to pass on the opportunity to draft Schaefer. They still have Mukhamadullin, Cagnoni, and Dickinson in their organization. I don't think they will feel a pressing need to add someone like Korchinski unless it's a good deal for them which this doesn't seem to be.

Sharks would have a tiny chance of doing this if it was Levshunov or Rinzel instead of Korchinski. They need a high upside RHD, not another mid tier LHD.

I really like KK too, but the problem is that the compensation for giving up the 1st being a bunch of meh picks just does not move the needle enough. All the picks after the 2nd round a basically valueless, and we already have 8 picks combined in 1st/2nd round of the next two drafts, so we already have a lot of lottery pulls for decent supporting players in those rounds.

We need top end defensive talent, we have our 1c of the future, a few extra good forwards, our goalie of the future, we really need that 1d of the future, and while I like KK, its not looking like he's going to manage to hit that threshold. So we simply need something more appealing to not take Schaefer.

I think the issue here is that OP is massively overvaluing late first and second round picks. There’s maybe a 25% chance late firsts make the NHL for more than 100 games and then it just decreases quickly.

Not even close. Unlike the nfl draft, there is a huge difference between a top 5 pick vs a bottom 5 pick just in the 1st round.

Your late toronto ipck+ chicago 2nd+ dallas second st best gets you to the late teens in a deep draft. There is a big cliff you can't climb in this draft.
