No way D-Cat's agent let's him sign a bridge..if a bridge is Meryl the old fashioned 2-3 year short term prove it again type deal which now is so long gone from the NHL scene.. The new "bridge" is the Mathews mid-term 5 yr deal for younger stars because they still would be getting a 2nd Huge payday on their next deal after the 5 years in mid-prime!!!
SO Maybe a $6.5 x5...would be a "cheap" new style bridge for D-Cat vs. A $7.5 x 8 ?
True every $1 million saved on cap helps now and for next 5 seasons after next season (which still is the last year of the Cat's ELC) ...but then Cat would probably be a $15 million cap hit when this mid-bridge deal is over if he continues as a perennial 40 goal guy.Goal scorers get paid the big bucks...and they ignore any defensive shortcomings...only look at production.
As for Gus...this is only year 1 of him showing any star offensive prowess.. And for d-men they do consider defensive usefulness too...which us bad in the case if Gus..So I think a shorter term bridge of 2 or 3 years is justified. ..Prove he can duplicate the offense and improve defensively ..then a big payday..I would think $3.5 X2 bridge gets it done ...if he stars in that time then a decision to keep or dump due too too much extention cost at that time of bridge expiration could be made..By then Boqvist could be "ready" to assume the new #1 pp qb duties and be cheaper on his last season of the ELC that slid 1 yr....and 1Y in the top pp qb job probably is not enough time to grab a big 2nd contract ..So likely Boqvist then could be bridged and given a 3 yr prove it again extention at a reasonable bridge price.
WE could be changing our pp if we kept both Gus and Boqvist at the points ....and that could be fun too.
