Kind of unrelated but the Reading Royals logo is pretty darn cool!

can't use the excuse either of 'dark period' for the franchise. if that's the case you could say the same for someone like DET through the 70-80s-early 90s until they turned it around. nobody in the world with a sound mind would ever retire the winged wheel jersey, because of that reasoning. i despise DET, but love and respect that uniform.

LA's biggest failure is never establishing a tradition based on the team's logo, colors and uniform. they hit the reset to often for this to happen and now are to the point of a generation of fans not knowing what the past history of the club is when it comes to its own identity.

Detroit hasn't really changed, so their jersey represents the best and worst and everything in between for that team. Do I wish we were like that? Sure, but we're not. The thing is that we have changed jerseys and colors and logos quite a bit as a franchise. If we were still forum blue and gold from day one, there would be no talk of a jersey representing a dark period. But since we have changed designs, then it's a valid point to say they represent a dark time.

Bummed.

I think purple is a fitting color for the Kings, the black-silver-purple colors looked great -- I personally think they were the coolest color scheme in the league -- and the scheme provided a link between our historic colors and our newer ones. Logo aside (I'm ambivalent about the logo, any of which could be easily changed to accommodate any color scheme anyway), the new black and white scheme is plain and utterly boring.

Disagree. I still think they were the best looking of any of our jerseys, and I couldn't care less who did or didn't play in them. If they'd have just changed the glitter to straight up silver-grey they'd be perfect. And they can do whatever the hell they want with the logo, as long as there is a crown in there somewhere. The current ones on the other hand, while not necessarily ugly, are just completely boring. I doubt I'll ever buy one.

I understood people not wanting to get the "home plate" jersey because to them it might be boring or whatever, but after winning the Stanley Cup in those jerseys I think that argument doesn't really hold as much. What fan wouldn't want to wear the jersey of our best moment as a franchise, boring or not? In this case it would seem to trump any feelings about the design. Just my $0.02.

Glad they're gone, I don't hate our current uniforms as much as everyone; I think they're very sharp and clean. Also love the retros as our alternates so I have no complaints about burying these jerseys.

One more thing to add that I hated about the purple/black jerseys. The glitter and LOS ANGELES written across the lower portion of the jersey. What were they thinking?

i wasn't a fan of the glitter silver, but i like the los angeles on the hem. thought it was and still is a very cool and different look. i wasn't a big fan of the black/purple, but i like the white/purple combo with the crown.

if that had the old school crown it would be a very sharp looking jersey. nice clean look and good contrast of colors.

when and if they ever look at going back to purple/gold as the primary colors, i think that would be the direction for the 2nd (road) jersey. white body with gold and purple accents.

something like this that was discussed two years ago

your opinion ... we all get to have one ... and as such one could just as easily say that icethetics pretty much nailed it ;)

http://www.icethetics.info/blog/2013/3/20/mourning-purple.html

It's a sad day today. The beginning of a new era in the NHL. One in which no team employs that great color between blue and red.
Sixteen teams wear blue. Thirteen wear red. None wear purple.

I am of course referring to the fact that the Los Angeles Kings officially retired purple from their color palette last night.

But even as we mourn this death, I am hopeful. Hopeful because the last time the Kings extinguished purple (yes, it's happened before in 1988),
it was resurrected briefly less than eight seasons later ...

It was nice knowing you, purple. Rest in peace. (Because you'll be back soon enough. )
