Sounds like the Canucks are ready to end this saga and have made the obvious decision to choose Pettersson over Miller. If they were the same age, then Canucks probably go with Miller as he is the more complete player today, however, Pettersson is 26 with a 100+ point season under his belt and and plays a selke like 2way game. Miller will be turning 32 in a couple months but is signed to one of the best bargain contracts in the NHL for what he brings and how much he produces.
Miller imo is going to be very very much in demand. Especially to teams that feel they need an Alpha and culture change in their dressing room along with what Miller can provide on the ice which is a Power Forward Playmaking son of a gun that is a pain to play against. Its not surprising to hear that Chris Drury would very much want him in the NYR dressing room.
As for the return, I dont believe the Canucks are in the mindset of rebuilding, so any trade return will have to include a Centreman coming back as part of the package.
Yes they have glaring holes on Defence even when Hughes and Hronek return but I believe they will resolve that through other assets. Trading Miller will almost guarantee a Centre coming back to Vancouver.
