per Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger, the NY Rangers have placed Martin Biron on unconditional waivers, for the purpose of terminating his contract. What's odd about that is that Biron already announced his retirement. Some are speculating he could be coming out of retirement and the Rangers are giving him a chance to sign elsewhere.

Why would that be a fast one?

LOL I wonder if he and AV had issues? or maybe it is a cap thing who know kinda funny if you ask me..

or it was the fact he is a 36 year old goalie with a GAA over 7 and he didnt want to play in the AHL at this point in his career.

Is it even possible to buyout a player during the season? (which is what unconditional waivers is for)

It's not a buyout, technically. It's a mutual termination of the contract. Biron wouldn't receive any compensation from the Rangers--unlike a buyout. The team and player agree to terminate his contract and he becomes a free agent.

Good luck to him if he does indeed give it another go. He has been a good soldier for us.

Did Marty have a good relationship with Torts? It's possible that Luongo's injury in Vancouver is medium-long-term, in which case, Vancouver may be looking for a veteran backup for Lack.

Torts liked Marty. Marty was a good guy and from what I've seen, a unique player. I've seen him/talked shortly with him a few times (I live all of 10 minutes from our town's main street and he isn't too far away from me). It seemed like Torts and him had a good relationship.

It's clear Biron is done in the NHL, however he could have some offers overseas to continue his playing career.

Biron to the KHL?
