Meh. Not overly excited, but not totally disgusted either. At least it isn't Whisenhunt. I'm going to be more concerned with who Marrone hires as his coordinators and the rest of his staff more than anything. If he brings in a lot of unknowns or guys without experience, I'm going to be highly nervous.

Marrone was the one guy I had no strong opinion on because I just didn't know much about him. So hard for me to react either way...we'll see how he puts together the staff and the draft.

Greg Robinson Syracuse record (05-08):
10-37 and 3-25 in conference

Doug Marrone (09-12):
25-25 and 11-17 in conference

Not stellar, but an improvement. You can only do so much with limited weapons. They also won two bowl games as the underdog...

I was on board with pretty much anyone but Wiz...

I would like to see the difference in opponents from the twos tenures. I don't follow the Big East much but it's had more turnover than anybody.

God the NHL stuff is ruining this hire. I want to hear a little local coverage on WGR, but I can't stomach the hockey stuff. Ughh

Me either, and not because i'm not a hockey guy, but because hearing about millionaires and billionaires ***** about money is annoying to me. It was kinda like hearing about those stupid millionaire politicians in control and the fiscal cliff.

I would like to hear more about the coach, I don't watch Cuae so they should be chomping at the bit with info because I don't think many who watch college football watch Cuse. They just don't play big games or anything.

doesnt really matter imo, the programs were night & day for anyone that followed them..Robinsons teams were bad, really really really bad, embarassingly bad recruiting, coaching, playing top to bottom.

Marrone did an amazing job turning it around so quickly

Anyone who is upset that you didn't get Lovie Smith because he is "proven" should remember the only thing he proved in Chicago is that he could not build a half decent offence. He inherited that good defence too.

I don't know much about college football but the positive here is that the Bills decided who their guy was and grabbed him. The process didn't draw out as worthy candidates signed with other teams. Perhaps more importantly, they hired a guy other teams actually had interest in. That's a real departure from the past few hires.

From what I understand, we should hope that he brings his DC with him, as SU's attacking 4-3 style seems perfectly suited for our roster.

People may not like this but I think today just gave Fitz another year.

I don't see how that's true at all. They're going to draft a QB. I guess that could mean another year for Fitz or a FA stopgap as starter as the new guy gets ready (if necessary), but that's not really due to the coaching hire.

I don't want to just drop Fitz and hope a rookie will be better. I'm not interested in starting over for the sake of starting over. I want to take the Seahawks approach. Take Fitz, trade for or sign a free agent NFLer that needs a chance and draft a rookie to groom. Let the best man win. If Fitz is as bad as everyone wants to make him out to be, it shouldn't be hard to push him to the bench. If the rookie or the free agent gives us a better chance to win now, so be it.

As for Marrone, he brought in Greg Paulus to give them the best chance to win his first year and Ryan Nassib was worked into the rotation as a redshirt freshman. Marrone identified Nassib was the best talent Syracuse had and put him into position to succeed and grow into one of the best passers Syracuse has ever had.

agree 100%

Fitz may indeed still be the best option next season.

I agree a guy will be drafted. But the only rookie that may be ready to step in is Geno smith(so the experts say he's pro ready) but i wouldn't want him. Talented but when it goes bad for him and gets tough it's UGLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I'm not against rookies starting, it's just theres no Luck, Wilson or Griffin available. I could understand if it was the best option. Wilson to be fair was a lower pick but for some reason had NO competition. They traded Jackson before the preseason. It's worked but seemed questionable at the time. But to be fair he was a bit older too as he took a shot at a baseball career, so maybe that weighed in.

Except then you're wasting money and cap space on Fitz sitting on the bench. If he's not going to play here next season, there's zero reason for him to be on the roster. I don't know what you consider "starting over" either. Starting over from what, a losing team?

Interesting that Marrone watched every game tape of every team he was interviewing for(SD, Philly and CLE as well)and thought Buffalo had the most talent. I actually think Philly has more talent. McCoy, Jackson and Bryce Brown are pretty solid.

Whether some believe it or not I think it went beyond football. I think the marketing genius saw it as an advantage to try and get "more" Syracuse people to the games. I should have figured as soon as his name came out that it would happen.

He has his shortcoming yes, but even so there is a chemistry of sorts after that offense playing 2 years together(some of them 3)

I just hope that Spiller gets more than 187 carries, like closer to 300(or over)

Seeing as Syracuse dismantled Geno Smith every time they faced him, I would be SHOCKED if he was drafted by the Bills. Unless of course Doug knows how to fix what is broken about him. Geno is not my choice.

And Maclin.... but the OL is terrible and I wouldn't want to touch that D with a 10 foot pole. As bad as the Bills did last year most people think they underachieved more than lacked talent... not true of Philly.... you'd have to go through a massive rebuild for that team

I have seen a few mock drafts with Nassib going to BUF at 8th overall. I hope they don't do this cause get got Marrone. They should address the D at 8 then QB in round 2

Love to see the Bills trade down in the draft and gain a coupe of 2nd rounders still good players in the 20 range and receiver is not a tech their if they decided to go offence
