Claude Giroux wasn't drafted to the OHL his draft year, didn't get picked up as a free agent by any team, took a free agent invite to the Q, put up 100 points, 1st rd NHL pick.

Went from not being able to even make the CHL at the start of the season, to an NHL 1st rd pick in one year.

Yeah that's a crazy rise.

Pens drafted Lauzon in the 2nd rd.

Some boards didn't even have him ranked, and a lot of experts like Pronman had him in the 6th/7th rd.

CSS had Karlsson ranked as the #13 Swede for the 2008 draft in their November 2007 ranking. The only notable NHLer ahead of him on their list was Matthias Ekholm (SWE 10). Karlsson was also outside of the Central Scouting top 20 Europeans as late as January.

By the end of the season, he was ranked ~15th overall (average position across a variety of public lists) and was taken 15th. Ekholm, on the other hand, ended the season ranked 80th (EU) by Central Scouting but was drafted 102nd overall.

Somewhere here on the Hfboards i saw, that Ed Joavnovski wasnt on the list at the beginning of his draft year.

Also you can find via google something like this:

Before his NHL career, Jovanovski spent two years with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Not being rated a high prospect for the draft, he admitted that he was a bit surprised by being selected 1st.
