Marner brings some much needed offense, and while Chabot is really good (especially this year), his money needs to be moved in order to make room for Marner.
Getting a cost-controlled LHD that can move the puck for the 2nd pair, playing with Jensen, stabilizes the position. CBJ will lose Provorov this summer, need a LHD to replace him, and also have alot of cap to spare.
What would Ottawa look for?I thought Zetterlund actually looked good. He just wasn't on the scoreboard, which isn't great but he also didn't cost us goals.
Batherson on the other hand... He's a guy I'd be looking to trade. His contract should welcome plenty of interest.
Sprong is a borderline AHLer who’s not good enough to play regularly for a playoff team. Prob gonna be in Europe soon, there’s a reason no one wanted him last summerSame reason Sprong signed for even less, 4th line guys
He is 100% an NHL level talent, but a huge A-hole apparently and agreed on him being Europe boundSprong is a borderline AHLer who’s not good enough to play regularly for a playoff team. Prob gonna be in Europe soon, there’s a reason no one wanted him last summer
Dumba?! Not a chanceIf Matinpalo isn't in your top 6 D, then trade him to DAL for Dumba(@50%) and pick
A big upgrade in the top 6 if Drake goes, Zett could go with him, though rather it just be Zett and futuresWhat would Ottawa look for?
Dumba (half-cap) as a 1 year stop-gap #7D. It's more or less a dump, but with the retention, the cap isn't so bad. The value for Ottawa is the pick, not Dumba.Dumba?! Not a chance
He's useless, Sens are better off keeping Matinpalo for depth cause he'll be much cheaper and more effective than even a 50% off Dumba and looking elsewhere for a #3 RD upgradeDumba (half-cap) as a 1 year stop-gap #7D. Half-price Dumba waived and buried cap hit plus replacement 7D from free agency cap hit (Perbix? Ruhwedel?) combined is probably cheaper than Matinpalo's cap hit next year. You get a pick too. Sounds good to me but what do I know? I guess how tight Ottawa's overall cap situation is would be a big factor. He's useless, Sens are better off keeping Matinpalo for depth cause he'll be much cheaper and more effective than even a 50% off Dumba and looking elsewhere for a #3 RD upgrade
Any UFA will cost FAR more than the barely over minimum that Matinpalo will cost. He'll be happy just to get a one way, as he should be. "A pick" is kinda vague, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be a second even, so not much helpHalf-price Dumba waived and buried cap hit plus replacement 7D from free agency cap hit (Perbix? Cozens has the role that Zib would have on this team. I don't think there would be much interest from the Sens side given Zib's age and the decline that is likely to be rapid.look for a 2x homecoming trade around Zibanajed~+ for Pinto~+
Sens showed the league they're nearly ready,
they're a better team now than when Brass<>Zib happened in '16
Despite his season Gaudette still isn't good.Marner isn't signing in Ottawa for that number, he'll probably have an AAV around (probably above) 13 mil on a 7 year contract if he doesn't re-sign in Toronto. Giroux and Gaudette also probably get more than that AAV-wise.
