Hope everyone is enjoying their grill-meats and brews, today. Even though it's not even noon, yet... as far as that latter point goes. Ah, well... celebration!

On hair -- I gotta get a trim here, soon. If I fluff mine out a bit, I get the 60s Bob Dylan hair. Which is pretty cool. But right now the back is getting a bit long-ish so that I'm almost sporting this 80s, Cobra Kai curly-mullet thing. Which... I guess also has it's merits.

But I'm with a few of you when it comes to getting hair cuts. I learned how to cut my own a long time ago. It's much easier to cover mistakes with curly hair, too.

The sun, sand, cold can, staring out into the great blue abyss without a care in the world... except for who will be the next Pens GM...

Oh and the entire front side of my body a beautiful shade of red.

of course my AC broke over the long weekend where I needed to start packing. I am sitting at my desk just dripping with sweat even when I don't move.

Can't wait to throw you a welcoming party, Ogre.

Ritalin is a hell of a drug when you have 800 sqare feet of laminate flooring to lay in one day by yourself.

At the time I had no idea on how to lay flooring, but it actually turned out ok. There was little waste as well.

I haven't taken it since because I was somewhat sure that a heart-attack was imminent throughout the day. I was 30.

Good times.

In college we would take stuff like ritalin and adderall and we wouldn't study for a second. We'd play video games, watch youtube videos, and do absolutely nothing related to school.

If you take those drugs in heavy doses though, and you do not need them, they can send you into a panic pattern, and you can have an anxiety attack...which feels a lot like a heart attack.

So I'm driving through a canyon in Utah and I'm so deep in that I'm barely getting a radio signal. I hit scan just to see what it'll pick up. It cycles through the dial maybe five times before finally getting reception. What do I hear? An interview with Luc Robitaille.

By the way, if you can go to Capitol Reef National Park, do it.

I always wondered why everyone got so hot and bothered over the Gamecube controller. Or, uh... really the Gamecube, in general. Or, uh... really Nintendo, in general the last decade or so, I guess.

GameCube controller, noted 3rd worst controller of all-time.

Though that would be nice for Smash Bros.
that is the only reason anybody cares

because Nintendo still makes the best first party games. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart games are some of the best games every generation. The gamecube in particular had Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, and Metroid Prime. For my money, that's the best top 3 games of any console to date. To this day, there's not a better console when you have 4 people in the same room except for maybe the N64.

The Wii definitely took a step back, but even so, the Mario Galaxy games are in contention for best games of last generation.

Well, the controller is ungodly awkward for the games I like...and the games I like don't come out on Nintendo systems, not since the SNES. Zelda, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime...none of that stuff appeals to me too much. The only redeeming factor for Nintendo consoles for me are the occasional great Mario game, the one version of Smash Bros. per generation, and the occasional trickle of JRPGs at the end of the life-cycle.

I'll give it credit, it's worlds better than the N64 controller. I'm generally indifferent to the GameCube, but the N64 infuriated me. The Penguins losing to the Panthers was only the second most disappointing thing to come out of 1996 for me...and I know I'm in the minority there.

I should note that 90% of the time I'm using a console, I'm with other people in the same room. If I'm playing on my own, PC is the way to go.

Yeah, I can see that. I have a soft spot for those titles, too... from my younger days. I played tons of Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Metroid, etc. for years. And I guess that's maybe part of it -- I played dozens of those games for years. Kinda done with them, now.

Besides, I guess I don't get into too many "party game" situations. Which is where most of these titles have their appeal. You kinda need friends, for that.

The best Mario games since SNES came out for the Wii. You should give them a shot if you can. Growing up doesn't stop them from being fun despite their lack of an M rating.

But ya, Nintendo makes a lot more sense if you plan to play with friends.

Oh, I forgot about Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem games are incredible. Give me a new Fire Emblem over a new GTA, Elder Scrolls or Halo.

That makes absolutely no sense to me. I would rather play 4 player Mario Tennis than play Bioshock by myself.

That makes absolutely no sense to me. I can get about a half hour enjoyment out of those games...if I'm drunk and with my best college buddies.

Smash Wii U will be the least enjoyable for me by a good margin...basically because the college factor is gone. I do have friends, but they're writers...none of them like video games and one likes sports. This was compared to having two roommates and an changing line-up of friends randomly stopping by...Smash Bros. was a two hour a day thing for about three straight years.

I want to make this clear - I'm not 100% anti-Nintendo, the 3DS is fantastic, their 'modern' consoles just always leave me unsatisfied and bitter. Motion control can burn in hell.

I kinda understand where he is coming from.

I like playing same-screen multiplayer games. Mostly. But participating in online multiplayer is just completely awful, IMO. Mostly because I've found that people, generally, are as dumb as a bag of hammers.

Having this newest Elder Scrolls game as an online RPG completely infuriates me. Like we don't already have enough half-baked, appealing-as-a-bucket-of-spit MMORPGs

Fair enough. My thinking is, enough of the best single player games come out for PC that Nintendo consoles still make the most sense for me even if I'm playing less with my friends than I used to. Granted, I also play Mario Kart games with my wife, brother and Dad.

I have been lucky to have friends who play the same games as me. Starcraft and Counterstrike online Multiplayer is some of the most fun I've ever had in my life playing games. But I was rarely playing without at least a few other people that I knew.

MMOs are just an entirely different beast. I don't particularly like them because they are designed to be time sinks instead of to be fun. But the social part of them is great. I loved doing WoW raids with 25 other people. You just need to find people that don't suck. And again, 4 or 5 of the people in our group were people I knew in real life; including my wife and one of the groomsman from my wedding.
