Team Canada fan all the way. But I prefer the US pair in this match up. Don't have too much faith in Scheifele.

2018 would have been an easy win for Canada. 2022 should be more interesting.

And I'm not giving up on Crosby or Tavares being a major contributor for 2022.

Things have worked out where this is worth a bump I think.

Looked like most had thought the U.S had the edge because it was assumed and taken as a given that Eichel was better then Scheifele.

Turns out that may not be the case after all. Schief is currently the better player then Eichel. Could change of course but as it stands Scheifele trumps Eich right now.

This debate is looking better for Canada right now.

Do people actually think there is no prodigy in Canada better then Mark Scheifele between drafts 2018-2021?

There's one kid with potential coming, and if he turns out, he'll be number two and tip the scales.

Heck Svechnikov could very well be better then both Eichel and Matthews from the 18 draft, there are players that will be superior then those 2 , only McDavid I feel is not going to get pushed out.

Who would that be?

Had an interesting conversation with some buddies about which country will have a better centre ice 1-2 punch for the 2022 Olympics assuming the NHL decides to go. We focused on young players for the US and Canada. Eichel and Matthews were no brainers for the US and obviously McDavid we penciled in for Canada. The other two centres we were talking about were Monahan and Scheifele with the Winnipeg centre winning out for that two slot. So the question is who would you rather have on your team? McDavid/Scheifele or Matthews/Eichel?
Whoever deliveres a better 1-2-punch to Gary Bettman is the man.

I wouldn't rule out Crosby still being among the best in the world come 2022 either. Lemieux was Canada's #1 centre in 2002 and he was 36. I think McDavid will be #1 but it is wide open for #2.

Either way, hard to bet against Canada here. Peak level centres the Americans are close, but Canada's depth will prosper and can't be touched.

Eichel may not even be the number 2 US center. The more I see of Eichel the less I like him. I'll take Scheifele.

It's pretty close I think.

Crosby might still be pretty good in 5 years too. ;)
I’m with you, cough syrup.

You really wanna bet against Sid?

I used to dislike Sid. He won me over by being the grittiest player in hockey while being the most celebrated.

I doubt it. Eichel and Matthews aren't run-of-the-mill first line talents. Players like the don't come around often.

Only every 2-3 years or so in Canada...

2003 Getzlaf
2003 Weber
2003 Bergeron
2005 Cros
2005 Price
2006 Toews
2006 Giroux
2007 Benn
2008 Stamkos
2009 Tavares
2010 Ekblad
2010 Seguin
2011 Scheifele
2013 MacKinnon
2015 McDavid

Matthews and Eichel are ridiculously overhyped, in my opinion. I don't see Eichel as close to McDavid and the dumpster fire that is Buffalo isn't doing him any favors to reach his fullest potential.

I'd take McDavid + whoever.

Thank you for your opnion - the entire hockey community disagrees. I am sure you are right, though :)

I will take McDavid+Scheif/Tavares/New kid on the scene
